Actually, Bible says universe will be destroyed (in order to re-create a new and perfect universe, including a new earth) in great fire and melting of the elements. So it wouldn't be against Bible really to say that's the same way it came into existence. Big Bang is neither anti- nor pro-theistic, it just describes the initial moments after the universe sprung into existence. Like most things in life, it is subject to your own world view.

An educated guess based off of current scientific knowledge is better than just relying on what people wrote about 2,000 years ago.

I'm just waiting for 2099, when we will all start with the collective of human knowledge and simultaneously work towards understanding the entire universe without lifespans, and without materialistic worries.

I don't think anybody is going that far Red. Even with the evidence, although IMO not concrete, there are other models and theories that can formulated using what we all ready know and would make just as much sense.

I'm cool with not having any freaking idea. People are working on it with the presumption that it can be figured out though. Really, it's ok to realize you don't know something when you don't know it. Nothing to get all in a tizzy about.

Makes sense. I'm a god, and I'm just imagining all of you. What a nightmare.

what if we are all living in our own imagined worlds?

None of you really exist except in my head. oh, that one will send me to some looney bin. must. forget. right. meow.

I wonder where we humans really are, and what we're doing right now.

That's my free trippy thought of the day gift. Enjoy.

Different scientists. Astrophysicists would be pretty useless as chemical engineers.

It's OK, though, I'm working on the killer robots part. All these things can go on concurrently, there are enough of us worthless academics to go around.

Everyone knows that fusetalk created the universe by timewarping someone's post very, very, very far back in time.

I don't think he ever went as far as saying we all exist in our own imagined worlds, and that our bodies are doing something entirely different elsewhere.

However in basic theory, yes, that thought has roots in Descartes.
Unless of course I haven't read enough on Descartes. I admit he is one I haven't read a lot on, just the main bullet points.

We're working with remnants of it, it all doesn't make any sense. That first sub-second, we, just, like totally don't understand.

2009, no unified theory and we're still scratching our head.

This is funny if you read it in Christopher Walken's voice....

Try it Shatner style too.

Let's ask Philosoraptor if the assumption is necessary.

Sorry, posting while lit again. Carry on. It was one of those watching discovery channel moments where they said "and then there were particles!"

While screaming at the TV I was urged to post this. "What do you mean there were particles? What do you mean there was mass? Why are you spreading such lies!"

I've never seen a TV show give an accurate exposition of BB theory, even Cosmos didn't get it quite right.

Your dumbass wouldn't understand it if they provided the math. Not saying I would, either. It's upper tier physics. The general public wouldn't understand any of it without learning the right physics, math, and having the right mindset. Don't bother to wrap your religious mind around it. You'll just end up being like those hick conservative school teachers who teach "science" and claim the things they don't understand to be false. Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it is false.

oh come on.

I know, right? That if statement is always going to evaluate to true, no matter what. And the printf will only ever print a file name, not the file contents. For shame.

Fixed the first part; the second part's point was to just print "name.txt"; I believe it's an ATOT thing to scream "republican.txt" or "spidey.txt" whenever something like this is posted.

Probably because they're trying to explain it to an audience which thinks American Idol is quality entertainment.
