Hi,
I just built a new system with an Athlon XP 1900, Asus A7V333 motherboard, and, among the various other things, an ATI Radeon 8500. For the CPU fan I got a Thermaltake Volcano 7 (not +). The case is a "standard atx" (no-name POS) with one fan hole in the back and one in the front. Now, the problem I'm having is, even with the case open, I can't get the CPU below about 55 degrees with the CPU fan running at full blast. The system is not overclocked in any way.
The airflow in this case is total crap, if I close the case, my mobo temps go as high as 45 degrees, and CPU 63+. Obviously there's something terribly wrong here for a non-overclocked system.
I investigated a bit, and found the Radeon to be boiling hot - Like, barely touchable. I don't know if this is normal or not, but the heat coming off the radeon is radiating up right into the path of the CPU fan, which could (partially) explain the extremely hot CPU/mobo temps.
So I've decided this case is crap, and went over to NewEgg this morning to get the Chieftec 01bd (or Antec 1030, same thing I gather). This case has many more spaces for adding fans, etc, so I figured it was a good buy, along with the many recommendations posted here.
Now my question is - What fans do you guys recommend for this case? I've seen so many things recommended, I can't quite pick out the ideal solution. I obviously want good cooling to get my case/cpu temps down to a reasonable level, but this computer is in my bedroom, so I don't really want the loudest thing out there.
I'm also going to get a new heatsink, because I'm disappointed with the efficiency of the TT7 (and, well, it's loudness) - The Alpha 8045 seems the way to go, but again, any good "middle of the road" fan choices here? I don't intend to overclock, I just want good cooling but again, at a reasonable noise level.
I appreciate any advice you guys can give. Thanks!
