Nintendo press release today (5/27) indicated that you'd have the option for the game bundle *OR* the GameBoy Player AddOn--no dual deal here unless you scam one.

They also announced that the preview disc will now be bundled with the cube (dang, just bought mine last weekend too, oh well)

Here is a link.

For $149.95, new GameCube owners will now get both the demo disc and their choice of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (which has only recently been made available as part of the GameCube bundle), Metroid Prime, Star Fox Adventures, or Mario Party 4. On June 23 the bundle offer will offer even more choices, as the Game Boy Player peripheral will be available in place of the free game.

well, anyway, I'm glad to hear they're not just doing the player bundle, a free game will pull in a lot more people than the gba player would.

Actually, I think the GBA player will appeal to more people than the free game will. I mean, Nintendo has been running the free game deal for a while now and while sales have certainly increased, they're not surging past the other consoles. However, the GBA Player will appeal to the millions of people out there that already own a GBA. It basically tells them that for $149 they can have a GC and still play all their great GBA games on their TV. I think it will certainly draw in a bunch of new gamers for the GC.

However, Nintendo really needs to drop the price of the cube. Both PS2 and XBOX have dropped down in price $20 and the cube hasn't. If people weren't terribly motivated to buy a cube for $50 cheaper than PS2 and XBOX, I soubt they will be now that it's only $30 cheaper. I think the best thing Nintendo could've done was lower the price of the cube to $99. I think a ton of people woulda bought a GC for that price.

I have to disagree. I think one of the problems that Nintendo has faced in this iteration of the console wars is that it is less expensive, and "everyone" knows that in high tech, the more expensive something is, the newer and better it is. Just look at past history, $99 for dreamcast moved a lot of units, but then Sega got out of hardware immediately thereafter. Granted this isn't an apples to apples comparison, but I think Nintendo is actually served better by the higher price point. Now they can say, "Look, we don't have DVD, so we knocked a bit off the price, but we are still very high tech."

Nintendo of America has today confirmed that its recently released demo disc--which contains playable demos and preview movies of upcoming games like Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, Viewtiful Joe, Soul Calibur II, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike--will be given away free with new GameCube consoles in North America.

Oh my GOD!!! I didn't know Rogue Squadron III is coming out. I just bought a GCN a few months ago and bought RSII and love it. I have two more levels to go and I was just thinking how much it sucks I'm not gonna play it anymore. Anyone know if RSIII will be like compared to II?

FWIW, the local mall KB Toys was clearancing a bunch of titles for all consoles. The only title that sticks in my mind was Defender for $14.99, but I'm pretty sure they also had some sports titles (I want to say Dave Mirra BMX and Agressive Inline), and a Disney title (DK something).

From the screenshots I saw, it looks like it's multiplayer too!

Actually, Rogue Sqaudron 3 contains the ENTIRE game of Rogue Squadron 2, but now it is co op, meaning you and a friend can play through all the missions together of Rogue Squdron 2. Obviously RS3 also has it's own sinlge player game which seems to offer much more variety than just flying different Star Wars ships. The single player game has TONS more scenarios from the classic Star Wars trilogy, which is good. I also heard there will be other multiplayer modes in the game as well where you can have death matches or capture the flag with Star Wars vehicles. This game is gonna be amazing and I just don't know how they can cram so much gameplay onto that tiny GC disc. Kudos to Factor 5.

Added link for MSN Rewards to list. Use the 20% off to receive $30 back on Gamecube purchase, $10 back on $50 games, etc, etc. MSN Rewards can be earned by purchasing from Circuit City, EB Games, Kmart and other participating retailers. The rewards are then spendable in August at any participating website.

Can anyone suggest any Gamecube game titles that are must have. I purchase "Enter the Matrix" and I though that it wasn't worth the 50 I spent. I also bough "the Sims" and I didn't like it as much as the PC Version. I also tried to follow wat the reviews says, but they are rarely accurate. So from other player's stand poing, what is a must have game?

The most "must have" game the GC has is Metroid Prime. That game is just INCREDIBLE. Other titles I would highly recommend:

Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker
Star Wars Rogue Leader(costs about $20 brand new)
Animal Crossing(be prepared to give up your social life with this game)
Eternal Darkness(also selling for around $20)
Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros Melee(if you like have multiplayer games)
Pikmin
Splinter Cell

These games are all great. Definitely check them out. Plus, some of them can be had for cheap, so now's definitely the time to jump on some of them. Enjoy!

My favorites for the Gamecube include Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Zelda Windwaker, and Starfox Adventures. I find that I am usually happy with any Nintendo produced title. Super Monkey Ball is fun and can be had for $19.99 in most places. Super Monkey Ball 2 is a bit more difficult and they added a stupid story line (it usually sells for $29.99). Check your local Blockbuster for the rare possibility of Metroid Prime still being on sale as well as any preplayed games as well.

After reading Danger9777's post I have to agree that Eternal Darkness is also a must have.

Don't forget these games if you have the extra money after those exclusive games listed above:

Resident Evil (remake of the PSX version) (around $20)
Resident Evil Zero (around $20 at Blockbuster)
TimeSplitters 2 ($20 in some places)
Beach Spikers (less than $20)
Phantasy Star Online (still around $50)
WaveRace: Blue Storm ($20)
Super Smash Brothers: Melee ($30)

Thanks for the heads up guys but

Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker (My friend has it, waiting for him to finish it before I can play it)

Star Wars Rogue Leader(I heard it sucks)

Animal Crossing(Not enough actions, its like growing a chia pet, you just wait and wait)

Eternal Darkness(Might look into this one, since its less then 20)

Mario Sunshine (I didn't really like Mario 64, you think I would like this one?)

Super Smash Bros Melee(Got it!!)

Pikmin (What the heck is this game about, never heard of it)

Splinter Cell (got it on PC, so I can save 40 bucks here)

I suggest reading a review or other source of info on Pikmin. From what I hear, it is a well done game, but I have never played it. If interested, it is $19.99 at Walmart.com. You didn't mention Metroid Prime, but if you haven't played it then get it.

Regarding Super Mario Sunshine, I would say that it is along the same idea of Mario 64, but the graphics and gameplay are better. I enjoy it, but this is the first Mario I have played since the very first Mario on NES.

I agree with Au Tiger about checking other sources for reviews on certain games. Don't base your decisions on what other people think, since you and anyone else will likely have different tastes. No one mentioned either of EA Big's recent offerings of Def Jam Vendetta and NBA Street Vol. 2. I love those two games. The only reason why I stopped playing Def Jam was because I finished it already, and even then I have the urge to start new again. As for Street Vol. 2, if you ever dug NBA Jam back in day, then this will knock your socks off. I've seen the clip of the upcoming Jam 2004, and Vol. 2 still looks like it's much better. There's nothing like schooling your opponents with sick handles and then taking them hard to the rim. Add a co-op mode and 4-player support, and you've got the fixins for a great game.

I don't have Pikmin, but I've heard that it is an excellent game. I am waiting for Pikmin 2 for its co-op mode.

Just want to say thanks to AU Tiger for the heads up on the MSN Promo deal. I am now a thrilled owner of a GBA SP for $80!

Also, EBGames have 10% off preoders or 25% off preowned games deals on their site every so often, so combine that with 20% MSN dollars and you could have yourself a pretty nice deal.

Circuit City also has free shipping (or you can choose to do in-store pick up).

KMart also have a 3% off coupon I believe. It's not much but it's an option...

Now to go off the topic a little...

Pikmin is an interesting genre bending experiment for Nintendo, and for the short time I spent with it, it was worth every minute. It's far from perfect, and caters to those with more niche taste in gaming, but if you are tired of cookie cutter games and want something in your gaming library that stands out from the others, you should definitely get it for $20. I can write pages on what the game is about, but if you are really interested, the best bet is probably blow $20 or just spend $5 and rent it from your favorite video store - the game can be beaten (100% completion) in about 10 hours or so.

Actually, you are misreading the story. The above games are found on a demo disk that will be included with any new GC purchases. The free games have remained the same, with Zelda being swapped in for Resident Evil 0.

Thanks to both of you! Mario Party 4 and Super Mario Sunshine have been added to the list.
