If you get Live, you'll prolly want to get a game that supports online play. The best choices for LIVE play (besides Sega's sports lineup, if you are into sports games) are, IMHO:

* MechAssault - I'm prolly a bit biased on this one. However, new content due to be released in just a few days...and continuing over the next couple of months.
* Ghost Recon
* MotoGP (for racers)
* Unreal Championship - KIM that there are some SERIOUS lag issues with UC right now. A patch has been announced, but no release date for the patch yet.

Now that you have the very best games like Halo and Splinter Cell, I would get Gun Valkyrie if you have an extra $15 ($19.99 at BB - $5 GC) lying around for a good (but very hard) game. Get Shenmue II whatever you do, be patient and play it out - this game will change the way you look at things. I just found some secrets my second time going through it and I can't believe the stuff they put in this game.


You might want to eventually get those Xbox staples Project Gotham Racing and DOA3, those are games that I just had to have because they were really cool launch games that are still among the best in their respective genres, you'll likely end up with them sooner or later (they are pretty cheap used or new depending on the kind of deal you find).


Even though I have Xbox Live, I really haven't used it much because I'd like to see more games for it (I'm not a fan of most sports games, and Mech Assault doesn't seem to me to be more than a rental - maybe I'll see the light after I rent it ). Anyway, my point is that you should see if the current Live games have what you like, if you find a Live game that you like then get Live now and enjoy it. If you find that the current Live games are not your cup of tea, wait. Don't waste part of your first year's subscription waiting for a Live compatible game you like. On the good side for me is that PSO II is coming to Xbox next month, so my Live subscription will get some use then.
Ghost Recon also looks promising, and I might end up getting that for Xbox even though I prefer to play games that are available on both a PC and a console, on the PC to take advantage of the GeForce 4 and the high resolution of a monitor ( those of you with huge HDTVs please disregard that last statement).

Also keep in mind that I probably am an 'odd one out' because I can't find an Xbox Live game that appeals to me. It seems that the majority of people that have Live say that they love it and use it frequently.

i think im gonna wait on live... maybe get it when madden 2004 or fever 2004 come out (or some other game... none of the games that utilize live right now really appeal to me). i think ill save my BB giftcards until something i really want comes out... ill have to rent a few things @ BB to see if they are worth buying ::cough::robotech::cough::

now i just need to find a good vga adapter so i can play xbox on a 17" monitor instead of a 7 year old 13" tv.

You can get PGR at most used shops for fifteen bucks (that's how I got mine)--I think it is clearly the best racer on the system right now--it is very deep, very challenging, and very rewarding. Most of all, it is long--I have a good twenty five hours into it and I haven't even unlocked all the tracks yet, let alone cars...lots of good street tracks--be warned though, it can be hard and can be frustraiting--but overall, it's probably the game I play the most on my XBOX.

the hole in the philips looks like an upside down mushroom, the hole in thompson looks like a 'U'.

I maybe mistaken but from what I read in this month's GamePro (got it for free from one of those magazine deals), Capcom Vs. SNK 2 EO will be delayed until February to try to fix some latency issues with the game.
