There are multiple different DVD-ROM drives that went into the X-Box initially. Some were provided by Thompson, some by Philips, and supposedly the newest v1.1 Consoles contain drives by Samsung. Each drive has different capabilities and some users have reported conflicting reports. Truth be told, try it yourself and thats the only way to tell. My Xbox can read all 4 DVD formats (DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW) and CDRW, no CD-R whatsoever though. I have a Thompson drive and a v1.0 Xbox.

Trying to pick the Right Xbox bundle comes down to dumb luck! The serial number doesn't help much with picking one of the xbox with the samsung drives!
Some lucky fewl in UK got his with a samsung dvdrom, and 20GB HDD (according to a thread on the X2 Forum). I just need a drive that will read CDRs! Yes, I got a thompson!

Went to my local EB Games today and the guy had to go in the back to find the flyer with the Serious Sam coupon. This is a one page flyer for January Winter Sale. Dates are 1/5/03 - 1/31/03. The Serious Sam coupon is one of many coupons of interest.
Another good deal from the flyer. Bloodrayne is currently selling for $29.99, the flyer had a mail in coupon for a $20 Gift Voucher for Bloodrayne. This is good on any console version.

From TeamXbox.comSince the introduction of Xbox Live less than 60 days ago, more than 250,000 starter kits have been sold -- double original sales expectations. The starter kit has been selling out in most locations in North America. According to data released by NPD Group Inc., in the first month of availability, Xbox Live Starter Kits outsold by 86 percent the number of PlayStation 2 Network Adapters Sony sold in its first month.

I'm still waiting for them to announce the price of the second year of xbox live service.

Most of the idiots claiming they got 20 gig HDs were reading the LBA number. Some guy said he got a 20gb drive. He posted pics and it cleary showed 10 gigs with an LBA 20xxx
