Not a Hot Deal per se, but welcome news!
Kola Cell Available Now
By Cesar
03.13.2003 @ 04:30 PM

UbiSoft and Microsoft has just released the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Xbox Live exclusive, Kola Cell. Originally scheduled for release tomorrow, the first of additional missions for the game is available now for download. The level only takes a couple of minutes to download and it's just 1928 blocks.

It is worth noting that this new level won't be available in any other platform.

Target B&M

Somehow I missed this post before and saw it when I was in Target today. I picked up both games along with a copy of RalliSport Challenge (which I've been wanting forever) for $10 and Soccer Slam for the PS2 for $15 (for a friend).

Now I'm wondering what you guys think of Soccer Slam & GunValkyrie. Is it a hot deal for the price or are they crappy games and that's why they're so cheap. Just wanna check before I open them and can't return them.

I think the general consensus is:

Sega Soccer Slam = Awesome multiplayer fun
Gunvalkyrie = Beautiful, pre-Orta console shooter with a PUNISHING difficulty level.

Every word above = true.

Especially Gunvalkyrie, that game is so hard but it awesome. The graphics, the style, the levels the whole control system (as hard as it is to master), even the music, everything is so unique and well made. That game just seems like it takes you to a different time in way, it seems like an 80s game with (pretty darn good) 3-D graphics. It's kind of different. Sometimes awesome games don't get recognized and end up selling for $15, this is one of them.

People, don't scare the guy. I think it's a pretty good game. The controls are not too intuitive... a lot of thumbstick clicks in succesion for combos. Not your regular Halo type controls. You'll get the controls by the 3 level and you'll probably want to do the levels again to get a better score. Good luck.

Halo 2 is coming out in quarter 1 of 2004. It's been officially pushed back by Bungie. The announcement was not too long ago, I saw it on IGN Xbox last week.

Well I successfully scored the "Buy 2 Platinum Hits, get a 3rd FREE" deal at both CC and Best Buy yesterday (last day the deal was on).

I scored:
Max Payne
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (green package)
Silent Hill 2
Blood Wake
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
either SSX Tricky or Starfighter SE (not sure which one to keep, any suggestions?)

ES3 took a LOT of doing, since it is listed as Platinum on Xbox.com (I took a printout from the website with me), but hasn't been released in the Platinum packaging yet. CC didn't have it, but a BB up the street did. They didn't mind PMing the CC deal, but gave me all kinds of crap about ES3 not being a Platinum title, since it wasn't in the Platinum packaging. Never mind that everywhere else on Earth any existing green box stock of Platinum titles immediately drops in price when the Platinum status is announced. :|

And as it went on, the numbskulls at Customer Service were too stupid to understand what I was saying about ES3 being announced as a Platinum title and how there was no way in H-E-Double Hockey Stick I was paying an extra $10 damn dollars for it.

I went up to another BB about 15 minutes...smooth as silk, other than I had stormed off from the first BB in such a mood that I forgot to take the damn CC sale paper with me. CSR at the 2nd BB had a heckuva time getting anybody at CC to answer the phone.

She did me a solid tho. She told me her family has an Xbox (and other consoles) and while she was on hold we talked games and other assorted stuff. When she got all the info...she presented it in a VERY favorable light to the 2nd manager (altho the 1st manager I spoke to had already approved it, he was unavailable by the time she got done on the phone with CC) and he said "No problem at all...do the match."

Got the distinct impression she wanted to make the deal for herself later. That ALWAYS helps!

Sorry if this a repeat, but this week (3/16) Best Buy is offering a $10 GC when you purchase any 2 Xbox Platinum Hits game. (In-Store Only according to the ad - it's also good for any PS2 Greatest Hits, but that's another thread).

Edited to reflect that you need to buy 2 not just 1 to get the GC.

Well, I can vouch for SSX Tricky. I don't know about Jedi Starfighter, I didnt care for it too much, but that's because i dont really care for those types of games, but I'll say that SSX is a lot of fun even if you aren't big on all the boarding games.

I check with my local meijer... no deal for xbox bundle

And at media play, they only have a deal for xbox bundle system include (jetset, sega gt, and extra one game that you can choose from 5 different game only).

The Meijer's deal is a receipt coupon, not a bundle.

Sorry for the confusion about the MP deal. Def's summary made it look like all the listed games were included in the Media Play deal. Clarifiying the the list right now.

I have both SSX Tricky and Starfighter SE. I'll be honest...I havent touched Starfighter after the day I opened it. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but I havent felt the urge to play it again over the other games I have. However, Tricky is a LOT of fun! Even when my brother's friends come over, that's the game they grab.

The people have SPOKEN!
Tricky it is!

BTW: That of course assumes that I don't take all of them back and order Steel Battalion instead!
