Yeah, this reading posts stuff is hard....

As for the good games--just look around--even the good stuff is on clearance at times (Ex Panzer Dragoon at ToysRUs this week)--I buy a good deal of stuff from used shops too--Blockbuster seems to have decent deals at times, but most of their used stuff have been rentals, so YMMV.

Found OSG Splinter Cell at outpost.com for $14.95 plus shipping which seems like a good deal. I'm not sure what OSG is but if it doesn't mean anything then it should be a good deal.

It's not the game it's the Prima Official Strat guide. The OSG stands for Official Strategy Guide.

..a bit OT, but figure you guys would have the best advice on this one:

Does playing X-Box on today's HDTV widescreens cause any long-term problems with the TV? In the old days, I remember that playing consoles on big screens was highly discouraged...just not so sure about the newest generation screens.

I have been waiting for the X-box drop in price and was cruising Best Buy last night...saw someone playing Madden on a 53" Sony HDTV and talked the warden (wife) into letting me get a new TV....man, that looked sweeeeeeet! I would just hate to have the picture quality suffer over the long haul due to my X-box gaming

I am not sure if the reason in the past has been burn-in, or what...maybe just an old wise tale...

man, that Sony 53" (or was it 58" ?) screen running Madden still is causing the blood to flow to my football helmet

Yeah burn-in is and was the reason for those warnings. They are still a problem if you aren't careful. Just make sure your RPTV isn't in torch mode and don't play a game too long. FWIW I have a RPTV with my xbox (since launch) and it is fine. Just be careful. Hell depending on your viewing habits, you may need to be more careful of those bugs on the channels.

I normally switch to an unused input if I'm sitting for awhile in a lobby.

And yes...IMHO all those stupid damned tickers, crawls and logos are a MUCH bigger threat.

BTW: Some games will auto-dim and picture shift to help avoid damage.
BTW2: Be sure and use Video Essentials to adjust your brightness and contrast controls to a decent level. This is prolly more important than anything else.

it's funny how many TV's we've ruined at Fry's due to people being stupid. A great example was our store manager wanting to show off how great Madden 2002 looked, but didn't want people to stand in front of the store and play it on the 50" HDTV, so he told us to put it on demo mode and just let it run. Well the great thing about that is in demo mode you get a big "DEMO" on the top. Well a after having that TV run simulated games all day with the demo logo there.....we kinda ruined a $5000 TV. It's funny to go to the "graveyard" they have upstairs. Row after row after row of big screens damaged due to stuff like that. For most common play though burn-in isn't that huge of a problem. Just pay attention to games with energy bars or some static element that rarely changes. The main concern was back in the NES/SNES days where it was all platforming games with life meters and scores that were ALWAYS in the same place. Just be smart and you won't ruin that TV.

PS, I want good LIVE deals but don't see anything on it. The E3 announcement made it sound as if the LIVE starter kit would go up in price $10 soon....so sounds like I need to finally get my kit. Don't see any deals out there though =(

Well while looking around for a LIVE deal I found a VERY mild one, but thought I would report anyway. CircuitCity.com has a buy LIVE and one of four games (Mech Assault, Phantasy Star Online, Wolfenstein, or Ghost Recon) and get $15 mail-in rebate with purchace of both (online only)

They also have if you order Matrix through the website you can get a $10 gift certificate by mail....yet again only a luke-warm deal, but thought it should be said as I don't see any other deals.

Just thought I'd post this in case it helps someone else.

I have an early version xbox (got it the first xmas they came out) and have been having issues playing Ghost Recon - many, many crashes. After getting a brand new disk, and having the problems only get worse, I resorted to calling the 800 number (800-4my-xbox) last night. I found this number at xbox.com in case anyone was interested.

I never registered my xbox before, but was able to do it over the phone. They also told me that the problem I was having would be covered under warrenty, and they are sending me out the packaging to send my unit in free of charge for a repair. I will get the packaging this week, and S/H and all the repairs will be covered as well.

Considering how long I have had my xbox I was surprised by all this, but thought I'd post here in case it helps someone else out. If anyone is interested, I can post more later once I go through the process.

I'm really surprised you get free warranty service because the standard warranty is 90 days. Did you have an extension purchased? I'm having some trouble with my XBOX, and it's a original launch one, but I believe off-warranty service costs are $100. I might call that number later. I know I registered my XBOX back then, so perhaps this is why you still qualify for warranty.

Dunno if this is the place for this, but others might want to know,
Can you play DVDs on your Xbox without buying the dvd pack? It seems like all there is too the package is a remote and IR sensor.

I might be getting service because I never registered before, which is why I mentioned that in the above post. I too was very surprised they were willing to do this even after telling them when I bought it. It is a toll free call, so I figured it was worth a try to see what they would tell me.

Yeah if you have a launch xbox and are having DDE, then they are repairing them for free. I called in about a month ago and they would have replaced mine for free, but since I had a BB PRP, I declined and took advantage of that. They should take care of you.
