I really don't see why mod chip deals should be banned, as there are legitimate uses for them. One example would be the Quake2 port someone is making. Divx players, etc are another. With that said, here's the best deal I have found on an OpenXbox chip ($49 + shipping):

Be careful though. Easybuy2000 has questionable reseller ratings and while they say they will get the chip in on Aug 19th, I have my doubts.

If any of y'all have built this modchip, I would be very interested in your experiences. It looks like a simple mod chip although the instructions are a little vague in the parts list and in the diagrams.

It is way too much work to mod chip an xbox.
it is only a video game system.
Why hack it?
To do things your pc cant do 100 times faster.
THey need to release unreal champ and splinter cell and crush playstation 2 for good.

I Pick up NFL 2k3 today and it is the S**T.
It is over for Madden.

Actually, the current modchips are down to 9 to 11 solder wires. It all depends on your preferences and what you want to do, but I can think of a few very desirable things to do with a mod'ed xbox. One would be to turn it into an mp3 station. Some people don't want an ugly computer sitting in thier living room playing mp3's. The xbox would make a perfect player. Would be an alternative to those overpriced boxes from Diamond Rio and others.

Did you have it scanned to check? Most of the titles listed on sale so far were still marked at $29.99 at my local Target, but scanned at the lower prices.

I managed to check out some previous questions in Forum Issues about the official stance on mod chips.
Altho it's still considered a gray area here on AT--due to the fact that the actual functions of each mod chip can be VASTLY different--the trend is still to lock mod chip threads and postings.

For that reason, I'd ask everyone to please refrain from posting mod chip info or prices in this thread, so as not to risk a lock. Thanks!

That's how I understood that at first, but in context:

So now I think they are just saying that to keep people from going to a store and demanding the pizza certificates in person.

Ths online form says to see back for purchase requirements, but there is no back.

Ok. I just called my B&M store, and it is valid, at least at their store. YMMV, but I suspect it is valid nationwide.

Now I just have to find someone to buy the NFL 2K3 from me!

Microsoft has a deal running now until nov. 15? when you buy both an x-box and the dvd playback kit. you will recieve a $30.00 rebate from microsoft, so it is like getting the dvd kit for free. All major retailers should be doing this as the retailers kit was mailed out last week with the rebate forms.

NFL 2k3 was released early (atleased here in the USA).
And you can pick it up at the normal spot. It takes best buy and target a little longer to get it on the shelf.

Better practice, because when xbox live starts, it is all about the Jets baby.
