I'm pretty new to this, but here goes anyway. I recently got an email from Blockbuster with their deal of "Buy A New System, Get Five FREE Game Rentals." Under the system prices, they list Xbox as $149.99. Under the Blockbuster website it lists Xbox for $199.99, but I was wondering if I could print out the email and possibly pricematch to somewhere like Bestbuy. Any ideas?

Are you sure the $149 price isn't for a rental unit?

Sure the price isn't for GameCube?

If not....it's DEFINITELY worth a shot!
Expect MUCHO resistance from Best Buy.
They will most likely say they won't match, since it's not a sale open to everyone (since it came via e-mail).

Feel free to forward me the e-mail for verification

I'm definately sure it's the price of the Xbox, which is also the price of the gamecube. "Bring home any new Nintendo GameCube, Sony Playstation 2 or Microsoft Xbox from a participating BLOCKBUSTER store, and get five free game rentals."
Anyone have an email address that they want me to forward the email to?
TallGeese I can't find your email address to send it to.

O.K. Not to deviate too much from this thread topic but here's a stupid question. Do the Toslink optical cables (great price, btw) connect to the Microsoft High Definition Pack for 5.1 sound. My Sony receiver has optical hookups. I was considering the Monster cable solution where their optical cable connects to there standard A/V cables but the cost is literally 3X as much! Any ideas? I now return you to this awesome thread...

Both the Advanced and High Def pack from Microsoft have optical hookups for Dolby Digital support.

Here are the relevant specs for each:

Xbox Advanced AV Pack
Xbox High Definition AV Pack

The fiber connector is on the breakout box, up near the strain relief on the box's cable.

A BIG HUGE BUMP for the HOT NFL Fever 2003 bundle deal at Wal-mart right now.
Better hurry folks. Dunno how long this one will last.

Don't forget to get a DVD kit for free (after rebate) while you are at it!

No one has mentioned anything about VGA Xbox adapters yet . . .

Apparently, there are at least two real VGA adapters out for Xbox now. These are not just adapters that upscan the regular interlaced TV signal to a VGA resolution such as does Viewsonic?s tuner box (http://www.viewsonic.com/products/video_box_vb50hrtv.htm), but rather, these adapters output native progressive VGA based on the 480P resolution that is standard in most every Xbox game (Or something like that. I am not so well educated on the specifics of the technology here; this information is based on what I?ve read so far. Please see the information links provided in this post for more specifics).

The following is from the Xboxhacker.com FAQ:

Q: Where can I buy a VGA adapter for the Xbox?

A: You can now buy a true VGA adapter for Xbox. Kgasper sells one, as does Digital-X. There are also plans in the resources section for building your own. Microsoft has no plans to release one in the future. There are other converters that let you play on your monitor (such as the one from Lik-Sang) but these are not true VGA adapters meaning you don't get the full benefits of the quality of VGA.

Kgasper (short for Ken Gasper) sells his adapters at http://members.cox.net/kgasper/XboxVGA/Home.html and Digital-X sells theirs from http://www.digital-x.de/knowhow/xbox/xbox_dx_vga_box/xbox_dx_vga_box.htm#9999 (this is a German Site, though U.S.A. Shipping is not unreasonable).

The prices are $76 for the kgasper and $92 for the DigitalX, both listed prices include shipping to California (the Digital-X is shipped from Germany and hence shipping price is a factor).

A good comparison of the two can be found here: http://www.xboxhacker.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=3d7052e67e1cffff;act=ST;f=9;t=4197;hl=kgasper+and+digitalx

Apparently the quality on these adapters is comparable to the Dreamcast VGA adapter (http://www.xboxhacker.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=3d7052e67e1cffff;act=ST;f=3;t=5143;hl=kgasper+and+digitalx)

Some discussion on these and other VGA solutions can be found at the Xbox Hacker Video/VGA and Audio Forum (http://www.xboxhacker.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=3d7052e67e1cffff;act=SF;f=9).

In addition, Redant (sold by Lik-Sang.com) has had an upscan Xbox VGA adapter out since March (the quality produced from upscan VGA converters is nowhere as good as the real VGA adapters listed above). This adaptor was mentioned on IGN: http://gear.ign.com/articles/354/354922p1.html. Apparently, there is a new version of this adapter due out within the next week that will be a true VGA adapter like the two mentioned above (http://gear.ign.com/articles/354/354922p1.htmlhttp://www.lik-sang.com/catalog/product_info.php?category=83&products_id=1533& - product page

and

http://www.xboxhacker.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=3d7052e67e1cffff;act=ST;f=3;t=5143;hl=digitalx+and+kgasper - the thread where this was mentioned). I am wondering whether this Redant adapter will compare favorably with the kgasper and the Digital-X. Regardless, it will certainly be cheaper at $49.99 + shipping (and whatever tax; I have not looked into this aspect).

Please feel free to add any impressions and research to this discussion!

I am personally having a hard time deciding between the first two adapters (which seem VERY similar) and waiting for the newer and cheaper Redant.

I have sent a revised version of this post to IGN Gear in hopes that they may do an Xbox VGA Adapter roundup/review and make my decision easier for me.

Comments and insight are welcome.

Personally, I think the new Redant (slated for release on September 2) looks like the best bet. The pass-through ports are what make the difference to me.

I bought my controllers at costco.com, they have the regular controllers and the controller-S's for $21.99 but shipping brings the deal to about average. After tax and shipping on 3 Controller S's, it came to about $80. I tried to find them at the B&M, but they don't seem to have them.

Anyone find any deals on Sega GT 2002? If I can't find any deals I'll probably just drop by the local B&M and pickup the game, but I was hoping someone found it for a good price ... I know GameStop has $1.00 for 2-day shipping, but that was the best I could find for the game. I wish EBGames.com was offering free 2-day or free 1-day shipping on the game ... I know they're usually very reliable when it comes to getting your game to your house on time (2-day shipping will many times be upgraded to overnight shipping for free for pre-orders)

It has probably expired. It was originally listed over a week ago. I'll mark it as DEAD. Someone please let me know if it gets resurrected.
