Saw a potentially HOT deal tonight on a new Sega Xbox bundle at Gamestop B&M.
Good ONLY until Friday of this week tho.
You have to buy 1.) an Xbox console, 2.) any Xbox peripheral priced $19.99 or above, & 3.) 2 Xbox games priced $49.99 or above each* to receive a $50 rebate

Here's how I would try to play it:

Sega Xbox Bundle = $199.99**
DVD Playback Kit = $29.99
Xbox game = $49.99*
Xbox game = $49.99*

SUBTOTAL = $329.96
Rebate 1 = -$50.00 (from Gamestop)
Rebate 2 = -$29.99 (for DVD Kit)

TOTAL = $249.97

* $49.99 IS the minimum required price for each Xbox game.

** Potentially, you might be able to swing a little more money off if the Gamestop location has any local competition from EB and you aren't interested in the included JSRF/Sega GT 2002 combo game disc. EB offers $25 for an unused copy of the JSRF/Sega GT2002 disc (sweet for EB since they resell the dual disc for $40 or so). I'd see if Gamestop would do the same thing for ya. That could potentially get the total down to $224.97...still a pretty good deal!!!

YMMV...and remember..the $50 Gamestop rebate ends THIS FRIDAY!!!

Hey man, I had the exact same problem, called Microsoft and they said it would cost me $99.99 to have it fixed and I would have to pay to ship it to them. So I just sold it to my local eb store and they gave me $125 store credit + $10 tax = $135.

Then I went to another near by eb and bought a refurbished xbox for $150.

So, basically I fixed my xbox for $15

No, I went just before the store closed, the manager wasn't there, and the guy just looked to see if it had been opened (it had not), and didn't even plug it in.

* What I don't know is if there is a minimum price required of the two Xbox games. If not, you could easily pick up one of the better quality initial release games for either $19.99 or $29.99 and get the TOTAL on this deal down to somewhere in the range of $189.97~$209.97

YMMV...but PLEASE...if you actually get this to work, post a confirmation in the thread ASAP!

This is a really good deal I wish I did this. I also heard that you can do this for the Gamecube, which I wish I also did when I bought mine last week.

On the issue of buying the DVD kit seperately: The customer service rep said that it would be no problem as long as both UPCs and copies of both receipts are sent in. One thing I noticed about the rebate was that they expect you to send in the rebate within 30 days of purchase, so I would get that DVD kit ASAP and send it in ASAP in case they go by the first date of purchase.

I have a question about the implication of us sending in these rebates. Since we have to cut the UPC label from the box to send in for these rebates, do we in sense waive our right to return the unit? I'd imagine if it stopped working they (BB) would replace the contents as an exchange, but what if you just wanted to return it? I'm not asking because I intend to return it, but I just wonder if this is just a way to make people who buy the system be locked into their purchase.

As far as I know there are no rebate forms with the extended information the rep said that existing forms are valid. I called 1-800-622-4445 to talk to somebody there.

Did you use get the DVD kit with the Sega Bundle? Should I order the DVD kit together with the console from kbtoys.com?

So you're the bastard I bought a used one from Gamestop and it wouldn't read any discs. I took it back and the "think tank" at Gamestop said, "oh we can fix this.. it just needs it's lens cleaned". I stepped back and watched in amusement as they went to work. Needless to say the first disc they tried just hung trying to load for about 10 mins. I walked out with my money back.

Ok, here's a question for you guys. Maybe you can help. The Xbox that I purchased about a year ago no longer reads discs and I'm getting rid of it. I still happen to have the 2-year replacement warranty card that hasn't been filled out yet in the box it came in. Now that I've purchased the Xbox Sega combo from buy.com, there is no 2-yr warranty card included. Is there any warranty at all when purchasing a new Xbox??? Does anyone know if I can use the blank warranty card from the old Xbox I had to get this. It's $49.99, which I think may be worth the investment considering all these disc reading problems from those manufactured in Mexico. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

I think all of this stuff is taking advantage of other companies at best, fraud at worst. Getting new products at good prices are what hot deals are about, not trying to swindle someone to replace broken hardware (out of warranty) for free. Not to mention it reduces the chance that I will ever buy a new or refurb product from an EB or Gamestop B&M to nothing This is a really good thread that's helped me out quite a bit--I don't want to see the mods smash it down because of stuff like this...

I went into EB today to pick up a copy of Ghost Recon and preorder XBox Live when I noticed in their new EB pamphlet, there is a $10 mail-in rebate if you purchase the XBox Live kit + any XBox Live compatible game that they have listed. One of the games was NFL Fever 2003. I believe that M$ has a $10 rebate as well on top of it, so this works out to be a nice deal if you plan to get XBox Live and NFL Fever 2003 anyways!

spwango:

Thanks for saying that. I'd hate to see this thread get shut down because of folks who are promoting such illegal tactics.

I REALLY appreciate everyone respecting the moratorium on modchip info in this thread. Altho there may not be an infringement issue with some chips, by and large, many of them do in fact promote infringing behavior, and that would be enough to cause the mods to shut this puppy down.

The same issue is at play about the suggestions to swap non-functioning hardware to get free warranty support, etc.
If you wanna discuss this kind of behavior, PLEASE take it to your own thread, and not ruin this great sharing of "legal" deals for everybody else.

thanks!

I verified the following info about this deal:

The accessory must be priced $19.99 or higher.
The two games must be priced $49.99 or higher each.

Clarified the deal both in the individual post and in the list.

You may as well. Also the deal is available at KB B&M if you prefer.

chadeades,

My Xbox had the form inside, but even better is the fact that M$ is really pushing the service plan on the Xbox website, so you can order online also. Here's one interesting feature they mentioned:

"Technicians who will do everything in their power to preserve the gaming history on your hard disk. "

Is this deal still going on? Is it restricted only to certain releases or all newer XBOX titles?

Dunno about the entire chain. May depend on the folks at your local. The trade-in is restricted to certain titles, based entirely on their trade-in value.

Not hot is the fact that Xbox Live and modchips aren't compatible, but oh well I didn't really think it was going to work anyway. Hey when are the wireless controllers coming out???
