Steam Discovery.

Looks pretty cool. Some neat new recommendation features. I like that - recommending games is hard and its nice to have something that can predict what you'd like. I don't want to think. Seems pretty accurate too from my brief 10 minutes looking at it.

it pulled up some of my favorite searches and recommended good games....I mean it probably isn't that difficult to come up with that but it's a nice touch.

I think some of the features are a step in the right direction, but it feels more like a beta to me. Then again, Steam hasn't ever been a rock-solid, polished application, regularly failing to automatically sign in because of 'network problems' even though I know the network is fine (I just try again and it works, sometimes).

In concept, I like the idea of being able to select 'not interested' on games, that recommended titles are displayed in a queue that you can check from time to time, and that personalized tags show up on the main page. The tags don't work very well right now (way too broad since anyone just tags them), but maybe that will improve somehow. I also like that images popup in an embedded window instead of external browser by default.

However... an infinitely scrollable main window is just asking for problems... and I feel like they should have focused on making it more navigable as a PC/TV hybrid interface. The blue color seems completely unnecessary, and I haven't yet found any way to turn off that blue 'glow' to get it back to the darker background color (they are forcing the new color scheme on users).

I like that the front page listings now clearly state if I own something or it's on my wishlist without going to the individual game page.

A step in the right direction I feel. Though the new background colour has to go.

Four things I would want to save some time
1) ability to filter out a series of games instead of one at a time, like FIFA with it's one per year release
2) ability to filter out unwanted tags (currently only appears to be "show only this tag".
3) A way to say I own the game, but I do not have it through steam. That way similar games get shown, but not the game I already have. Can not add some of these games to steam as they belong to a different delivery service (ie: through EA's one) or the game was purchased on disk (Cd key is not always recognized in steam).
4) For the game to recognize similarities in the games, like when you buy the base game, and a few months later there is the "gold" version with all the DLC and that game gets recommended again (issue seeing as I kept hitting the "show more recommendations" button).


I did have a play with the updated "for you" que when steam updated, upto 330+ checked games. It is a nice way to flick through what is on offer, but a little sick of the reason for showing me the game being "this is popular, you might might like it". If it was that good, I would have purchased it when it came out.....
