Well, I bought Warcraft 3 battle chest this year and the Frozen Throne expansion was a disappointment. It just sucks so much playing as elves just after playing as the undead, I couldn't force myself to finish the expansion even with cheats.

For games released this year, I boycotted Fry Cry 2 and Spore (didn't pirate them, still have Starcraft: Brood Wars to finish) so wasn't disappointed there, Warhammer Battlemarch would have to be my biggest let down. Didn't have the internet to realize I should of gotten Rome: Total War instead.

Start playing Defense of the Ancients (DotA @ www.getdota.com)

I'd recommend getting the AI map first and playing versus comps. It's a rather mindless way to burn 30m to an hour but it can be a load of fun when playing with friends.

I used to be in the "WTH how can that be fun" camp... but it's one of the few games we can LAN up with on the weekends that'll run on everybody's computers...

How can people say Fallout 3 sucks? Anyway, for me, it would be no game because the only game I was interested in was Fallout 3 and I enjoy playing it.

And I'm not surprised that Spore was overhyped garbage. Those type of games always are (Black and White anyone?)

I love Fallout3 . It's everything good about Oblivion without the shitty Oblivion Gate levels.

Only disappointment this year is not yet on the PC -- GTA4. Utter crap.

I cant believe people are saying that Fallout 3 sucks and it's just a mod of Oblivion. Did you guys even PLAY the game? No, like REALLY play it? I bet you didn't even go through 50% of it. I can honestly say that mixing Oblivion with Fallout wasn't a bad idea after all. The devs managed to do a good job... somehow.

My disappointments:

Red Alert 3 (garbage) unlike C&C3 which was great The water is awesome though. But that's about it.
Sacred 2
End War
Age of Conan
NFS: Undercover
Far Cry 2 ( I thought this one would be nothing short of epic)
Tomb Raider Underworld (They hyped it so much... All those movies, all that talk, all BS.)

oh, and finding out that Starcraft 2 will be released in "parts". WTF?!

Call of Duty World at War

There will always be plenty of games you have bought and just didn't like for various reasons (not your taste, poor execution, etc.), but this is the first game in a long time I truly felt I was ripped off on. ~$69 for the "collectors edition" for what amounted to about 4-6 hours of game time in the single player campaign.

Basically it was billed as Crysis but from a slightly different perspective and with a bit of extra MP stuff, and released at a reasonably cheap price.
I don't see what you could have expected from it or for it to bring, unless you are disappointed that it didn't have better performance than Crysis.

It was billed as Crysis: The Side Story, and that's exactly what it delivered.

For me, it's a tossup:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Absolutely beautiful looking... for an anime film. Pity I spent more time WATCHING A MOVIE than I did playing the game.
Grand Theft Auto 4: Visually drab with the screen looking like it's coated in vaseline, boring and repetitive missions, an unlikable protagonist, no side-missions/activities, no planes, a much reduced sense of humor in favor of "gritty realism" I didn't care for, and an overly needy bunch of in-game friends that phone me every 20 minutes made for a less than enjoyable playing experience.

I don't know... I no longer follow the hype on most games until a month or so before they go gold. Everything I wanted this year turned out to be good (Fallout 3 and Stalker), and I rarely just buy something randomly.

1) Spore

Umm... yikes?! Seriously... I was speechless. The game really was a big letdown. There's enough info on it already, don't need to add my two cents.

2) Red Alert 3

Hard to place this one. Seems like the game lost its soul. I love the single player campaign story, but the actual game play itself... just doesn't feel like Red Alert anymore. Too much sci-fi units, and too many cartoon-like abilities.

3) Space Siege

So much for a game touted "Diablo in Space". Boring, boring, boring.

Age of Conan, One of the worst uncompleted lifeless and worthless pieces of shit I have ever played.... Lies, unprofessional, crappy.

Failure of epic proportions

Look, I played fallout 3 all the way through, done all the sidequests, and I'm sorry, but it's disappointing. They were selling VATS as some kind of way to make turn based work in an otherwise real time first person game, and it turns out it's nothing of the sort. It functions like a superpower, like Max Payne or FEAR's slo mo. Any possible tactical depth is seriously impaired by the friggin 90% damage resistance they put in because you couldn't move when they were going for the oh-so-cool slo mo death scenes, and people were constantly getting killed because of it.

That's just one thing. I could go on and on. It's not a bad game, by any stretch of the imagination, but considering the source material they had and todays technology, it could've, and should've been one of the greatest games of all time. And it's just not.
