gates and liberals hate the 2nd amendment. got it.

ps idiot liberals.

NRA is a collective of gun right supporters

Gates is a singular man trying to impose his utopia on you.

You realize that the "utopia he is trying to impose" is supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans, right? Can you "impose" something on people if they want it?

Overwhelming majority of city slickers, maybe :awe:

A person raised in the city and accustomed to life there.
This often leads to naivety in certain matters, and sometimes unusual prejudices.

This can be quite extreme, some displaying prejudice that is in it's own right as vile as that attributed to the average red neck.

Most of them though are quite decent folk who just don't know that you can change your car's oil yourself.
Sammy Cityboy: I didn't know you had a pocket knife! why do you have a knife?
Hank Hick: It comes in handy. See? I just used it to open this package.
Sammy Cityboy: So you don't use it to like kill people?
Hank Hick: No.
Sammy Cityboy: oh...ok.
Hank Hick: ...if I wanted to do that I'd use my 12 gauge.
*Sammy faints*
Hank Hick: Sam, you're such a city slicker...that was a joke...

Sounds about right!

I don't know the details of this particular bill, but the problem is that usually these bills come with all sorts of unpleasant surprises tucked in. Yes, most people support backgrouind checks..... (as do I), but I also don't want a permanent registry of ownership created, and I don't want hindrances created to law abiding citizens owning guns, and I don't want them to jump through hoops etc.

Basically, background checks are fine, so long as they don't come with further abridgement of the 2nd amendment rights. If history is any indication, 594 will have such wonderful surprises tucked into it.

Rich people are scared of poor people with guns.

You think Bloomberg doesn't have guns and a security detail with more guns?

Laws and restrictions should only apply to peasants, not the important elite like us. Obviously we are important.

if you opened NICS to individuals, i think most people would go for it.
This. They don't want universal background checks, they want a pretense to create a transfer tax; history tells us if they can tax the transfer, they can ban it like they did with MGs under FOPA.

People want things that are packaged nicely and presented as such.

Years ago before the Internet as we know it I remember a survey being done where people were asked if they would give up some rights for better security and as expected most said yes,

but when those same people were asked if they would give up specific rights for security like the right to an attorney, warrant less searches, indefinite detention, etc., the numbers now dropped significantly.

Conduct a survey and presented the right way you can get the answers you want, start including all the details then don't be surprised if you don't get the same number of people aboard.

You didn't think that you liar, you looked it up. I was curious to see who would have the character to admit as much. Don't ask how I know.
Or perhaps there are defects in brain components within both parties

There was 2/3rds support for the explicit bill put forth in the senate.

They don't support this particular proposal? Do you have info that backs up that claim?
I don't need any. The survey you're quoting (there are several to choose from all in the same time frame) predates this proposal. Furthermore, they survey asked about generic "background checks" without elaborating on the process.

Poll out this proposal and I predict somewhere around 30% approval.

Lie. http://www.gallup.com/poll/162083/americans-wanted-gun-background-checks-pass-senate.aspx

The 65% approval survey was worded as "expand background checks for gun puchases". The 80-90% results were worded "require background checks for all gun puchases".

Neither survey expounded on what the Senate bill entailed nor asked if the respondent was familiar with the contents. Claiming that these results mean they support it, when a fair number of people never know what is in the bills until they pass (Pelosi...) is disingenuous.

Washington state already does background checks. This extends background checks to private individual sales. So it stops me from selling my firearms to a friend or whomever without first doing a background check. Of course I cannot do that so I have to now go to a licensed dealer. To comply with the law, I would do that.

I am uncertain if a criminal or dangerously mentally ill person would do that.

It looks like others in the Tech Industry seem to be on board with him on this. He may just believe that there needs to be a National Background Database Check and he like many others who have strong beliefs is acting on it. Of course he has his Billions to throw money at ads and a campaign that the NRA wouldn't be able to keep up with. So, yea, there's that..LOL

Do you support background checks for voting? How about requiring a voter ID?

Actually the 65% result was asking if the senate should have passed that bill or not. It takes a lot of balls to accuse someone else of lying when you're trying to tell someone that when people said "should pass this bill" they meant "should not pass this bill".

Your real complaint is that the poll didn't give you the response that you wanted. If you feel that you can come up with a better worded question please do so. My prediction is that it will be incredibly biased, hopelessly unwieldly, double barreled, or something else.

Also, you know that statement about Pelosi is a lie, right? How are you still being duped about that?

One can interpret the well regulated militia language to mean registration.

registration is the low hanging fruit in the gun debate and most reasoned adults can have guns and wouldnt mind registering them.

wtf are you guys so afraid of? People knowing you have 400 guns in your basement? Me thinks thats a SMALL percentage of this debate that gets WAY too much attention.

I have six guns and I dont see a problem with this.

I am not a felon. I am not hiding my wages. I have a bank account.

Seems to me the people who are afraid of this have something to hide.
