Realistically though, what's the big difference between 10 million and 10 billion in terms of the effect it can have on someone's lifestyle/standard of living?

The difference? Huge.

$100k/yr for 100 years or $100million/year for 100 years.

If I had 100 million to shell out at minimum every year... you can fucking bet I'd be living in god damn royalty! Private jets everywhere. Huge mansions. Every sports car I'd ever want.

$100k/yr? Oh, I'm just some yuppie in NYC.

great? they do what every other PMP does, minus the cool shit. I owned one, it did nothing exceptional well. And it didn't do a lot of things at all. I don't believe MS saying it's false, the Zune HD's are on clearance everywhere around here, that's typically only when 1. a product is over with. or 2. a companies about to release a new model. I doubt they're releasing a new model. And how am I trolling? I made a comment on the one part of the interview that stuck out to me.

Haters gonna hate. The Zune's interface is hands down the best for media consumption. And they're not gonna stop selling them, no matter how much you want them to. What things didn't it do well? Apps? It was never meant for that. It was meant as a media consumption device, and it excels at that.

Anyway, let's not derail this thread further. Take your hate elsewhere.

And you'd still find shit to bitch about and add to your list.

This is why anyone can like Bill Gates and only Apple fans will like Steve Jobs. Gates actually has done tons of good with his wealth and Führer Jobs, well he's just using it to further his master race.

Why? His kids have such advantage over other kids. Can you imagine all the wonderful things they have seen, tasted, visited, and had access to? Im not jealous of the money. Im jealous of their experience and contacts.

This. They will never need the money really. Any college will accept them, and the amount of connections they have will easily put them into the upper echleon of any company or government. Super high ranking government officials, super wealthy individuals, celebrities, etc are all familiar with the family - their kids will be perfectly fine even if Bill left them $10...I mean Bono sleeps over their house

Hm...yea why isn't there more public record of Jobs doing charitable work? Anyone know if he does donate significantly, or at all and just keeps it quiet? I know he helped create that bill to encourage more people to donate organs in California...but I'm surprised he hasn't signed the "Giving Pledge" or done some large donations here and there...

In comparison to what? For me it was just fine. The Zune software is great for organizing media, including playlists And that's your 'whole' list of things wrong with it? Really?

It would be best if we'd discuss this in another thread, though.

The reason why Jobs did that organ donation thing is that since he's going to need them very soon, he can horde them and switch out organs on a whim whenever they go bad.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Up to this moment in his life, his been a gigantic douche.

A gigantic douche who pretty much has stolen the work of others from what I've seen and heard so far.

I like his style, but sometimes I feel a little disappointed when boring people are super-wealthy. If I was worth billions, you can damn well bet I'd be using my money to get rocketed into space, autocrossing my supercars on my own personal racetrack, taking all my best friends on vacations to exotic places every month....

Of course, I have the utmost admiration for their philanthropic contributions. But still. Have some fun.

There are a few out there, like Branson. I recall my dad knowing a guy that after getting rich decided to take up ballooning. He kept trying to make attempts to go around the world but I recall hearing he ended up dying trying to do so.

Hummm, if Zune's are so great why did MS stop making them? All the money in the world, yet his kids cannot own an iPad 2.

Because mobile phones are replacing the standalone MP3 players. I have a Zune HD, and it's a great media player. But when I can get a smartphone for under $150, why get one?

Yeah, my dad started out in the commodities pits and eventually had a small firm on the Chicago Stock Exchange. So he had heard about Fossett before his adventuring got him into the spotlight.

I had to google him to remember his name, but it appears I was wrong in that he died in a plane crash and not another ballooning or record attempt.

But that's the point. Gate wants his kids to work for the money not live their lives to spend what remains of their dad's fortune. They'll be getting 100K/yr on top of whatever they make. I fully agree with the philosophy. I agree with the previous poster of keep $1 billion in a trust fund somewhere just in case.

Shit, when you get down to it, $100k a year for doing nothing is pretty good money. That's a very comfortable life, without any need to work if they decide not to. I think it's a great approach, and I have nothing but respect for Gates.

Yea, especially when you add on to that that Gates said he will fully pay for their education and medical expenses...those aren't small things either. I'd certainly be happy if someone else paid my $650/month student loans....

I know I sure as hell wouldn't work. Sounds like a good way to provide for your kids without making them ultra spoiled douchebags.
