OK, I haven't really counted, but they're everywhere. If I turn over a patio paver probably 20 will scurry around. Sticking a shovel in the ground might turn up at least that many. They don't seem to be aggressive, they always scurry away, not towards me.

I can't figure out what they are, or if they might bite or sting, or how to control them.

Most are small, less than half an inch, but some are larger. Sort of hairy, but not really. No colored markings.

Those are probably hunting spiders. You don't have to do anything about them, and they won't do anything to you, except reduce nearby insect populations and provide food to birds and lizards.

Spiders and snakes leave once their food sources are gone. I see a ton of spiders around my socks and in the trees nearby. I let them live because I hate mosquitoes.

Those around my house and garage are more "fair game". See if you can figure out what kind it is here:

I had minor insect issues the first few years I lived in my house. Some ants, spiders etc.

Then I decided to start coexisting with centipedes instead of killing them. Ever since then I have no insect problems at all. Centipedes eat everything that moves.

Every once in a while one will get too big for its britches. I don't even kill those. I take them outside.

Are you trying to trick me into typing 'spider boner' into google?

No

Boner spiders in your bananas? Maybe...

Are Boner Spiders Hiding in Your Bananas?!
Like bananas? Hate spiders? Congratulations - you’re hardly unique among humans. And if you like boners, you’re hardly unique either. What IS unique is when spiders, bananas and boners come together, as in this week’s story.

I’ve got this guy living in my entryway right now. Eventually he’ll have to go but in the meantime I’m letting him eat whatever other tasty bugs he wants to eat. Probably an inch and a half long … what is this, Australia???

Centipedes I just can’t handle. We used to have a bunch but their population has gone down to near zero after a sticky trap campaign in my basement and an exterior sealant campaign along the foundation and windows. They can live outside all they want with the spiders eating all the lesser insects.
