So I've had this issue for a few weeks or so and it's pissed me off enough to create a thread about it.

I normally use Bing as my home page cause I get points for searching which allows me to redeem them for Amazon.com gift cards (yay).

For some reason a few weeks or so ago, the Bing website suddenly has stopped working on my home PC (works fine at work or via mobile).

http://www.bing.com

https://www.bing.com

It starts to load the page then shits out. And the "https" version totally shits the bed.

I did a "tracert" and "ping" in case someone that's smart can decipher or use the info:
tracert

ping

I thought it was my "hosts" file that was screwed up, somehow, but I don't think so:

I do use the uBlock Origin extension in Chrome and have tried turning that off/on for www.bing.com and still no difference (from the partially loaded page).

Any ideas? I often highlight words and right-click on them to search and since I have that configured for Bing I can't do that. I don't want to change to Google because I like my Bing points. HALP

I forgot about Bing lol. But seems to work fine for me, was able to do a search and all. For traceroute I get a similar result though, so it's probably just a router blocking iCMP.

Code:

Try firefox on the problem pc, no addons. If that works, try to duplicate your chrome addons. I'd suspect one of the lists in ublock is causing issues. I'd fix it by using duckduckgo. Privacy is worth more than a few amazon baubles.

It is an intermittent issue. I have a toolbar shortcut to Bing Images and this morning tried it, failed to work. Manually typed in www.bing.com and it worked just fine. Selected Images from there and it worked just fine. Closed and then tried the toolbar shortcut again and now it works. This was in FF with uBlock on.

I forgot to mention in my OP that Bing doesn't work in Internet Explorer or Edge, either. I guess I could try Firefox too, but c'mon, there's something going on here.

Have you tried changing your DNS server?
No, I don't know what that means or how to do it. Isn't there a switch to the "ipconfig" console command that'll do that?

I'm trying to figure out how sites with the scale of Bing or Netflix can still go down. Sites of this size all have load balanced redundant server clusters with standby capacity distributed all over the globe.

I'm not seeing an option to redeem for Amazon GC from Bing Rewards...

have you run one of those "stop spying" scripts floating around on the internet? A lot of them break things. Did you edit your hosts file?

if none of your browser work scan for malware.

Edit:

Oh, Go to Setting > Network & Internet > Proxy. Make sure you don't have anything set there (unless you actually use a proxy, in which case it might be the proxies problem).

Just something to try, as I don't know enough about networking to say what your exact issue is, but couldn't hurt to rule out ISP DNS issues.

Well I tried changing my DNS servers to Google's and I still see the same issue. Poop.

I haven't run any scripts, haven't edited my hosts file, I don't download torrents or illegal crap, etc. I have Windows 10 and Windows Defender and haven't seen any virus popus or warnings.

And now as of this afternoon, Google search started acting weird. It's a blank screen after I type something in and hit the "Search" button, but I realized that it actually has the links on the page because mousing over the blank page will change to the mouse pointer to a hand icon when you go over the results. Weird.

I tried Firefox and it too has the Bing issue, but at least Google search works in it (it does in IE and Edge too, just Chrome is messed up). I dunno wtf is going on, but at least I can use Firefox and Google search. :-/

Seems like a weird video driver issue then. Update drivers?

Oh wow. I have a Windows account for my mom and she said she couldn't get to a Golf Solitaire website she likes to play at. The error page said something about a proxy connection so I checked the Firefox settings for her and "Use system proxy settings" was on (though no other settings were there); shut it off and that site worked. So I then checked the Firefox settings on my normal account and sure enough it was setup to use a frickin proxy server. Shut that off and bam, Bing works now. Wow... after a year I finally figure it out. And I see quikah had suggested it but apparently I missed that before. :-/

But Edge and Internet Explorer still can't get to it. It looks like Edge is using a proxy server but if I shut that option off the "Save" button goes grayed out and I can't save. If I leave Proxy on and blank out the settings, it still doesn't work. Oh well, I use Firefox anyway so I guess I'm satisfied enough.

If you've got a proxy server set in Internet Options, and can't remove it, then either it was put there by 3rd-party security software that you either current or previously had installed, or you have malware.

You'd be surprised at how many Bing hits I get at my site. But by far the most popular is Google. I've seen Duck Duck Go a fair share of times as well.

I suppose it's possible I have malware that got on here somewhere. I'm usually quite careful and I do not download bullshit or view bullshit websites. But things can happen. I've only looked in Add/Remove Programs, but I don't recognize the Killer Performance Suite thing. A quick search shows some people having issues after uninstalling it though:

Actually that makes sense because Internet Explorer and Edge both had proxy set and at least for Edge, it's probably considered the "system" or "O.S." setting and that's what Firefox was picking up.

There are like 24 people who use bing, Maybe the T1 to the server was overloaded for a bit.
THEM'S FIGHTIN WORDS YOU SON OF A. lol, I also get shit at work from my co-worker, about Bing. F all y'all, because of Bing Rewards I've gotten $85 free dollars at Amazon. NOW WHO'S LAUGHIN

I dunno, I may have some frickin malware on here though. I'll maybe run a scanning application but I have been considering reinstalling Windows anyway. I need to setup the backup feature of Acronis True Image but I'm too f'ing lazy; maybe this is a good opportunity to reinstall and do that.
