bios got hosed, can i get a new one

So, i think that a virus overwrote my bios because i get 1/2 signs instead of the normal picture, not to mention it wont boot. So its an older intel board and i was wondering if i could just get a new bios?

Some motherboard companies will replace your bios for you at a cost, I think.

There's a dangerous way to fix a bios too, without sending it to the company. If you have a friend who has the same board as you, you could take his bios chip out and put it on your motherboard, boot up, get ready to flash bios, and then take out your friends chip and put yours in. Flash. I've heard that this works but is very dangerous. I certainly wouldn't try it.

Never heard of a virus affecting the BIOS. Has anyone?

A virus called Chyrnobal (sp?) went out a while ago that, if successfully infected the computer, would wipe the BIOS... not very nice of the person who wrote it, eh?

Many viruses will try to overwrite or erase the BIOS, but this usually doesn't work when you're not in DOS mode. One suggestion is find the same model board on ebay or something and take the chip off that one. (may need to reflash, though)

Second this recommendation. I hosed my Asus A7V133's BIOS and badflash sent me a reprogrammed chip that worked beautifully.
