I installed EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB Video card in my PC last night. Every thing works fine except I have a problem when I boot up. I get the American Megatrends window showing the boot up process which stops when it reaches 4th Slave it shows my HDD where it was before. When it goes to the bottom of the list it shows the notice "No IDE Master H.D.D. Detected. Press F1 to resume" After pressing F1 it goes on and finishes booting and performs just as well as before. I don't have a clue as to how to fix this. I hope that after I can resolve this problem my PC will go on and finish booting without this Megatrends window coming up ever time.

Intel e6600 Core 2 Duo @2.40GHz
ASUS P5GC-MX
(2)Kingston 512MB PC2-4200 CL4 240-pin DIMM
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640 MB
WD 250GB GB SATA II
Corsair CMPSU 550W
Windows XP home

I would appreciate someone telling me first will this fix the problem. I don't have a clue as to how to do this as I don't know very much about the BIOS which is probably all that I need to know. Thanks

Please someone respond. I am having same problem with AMD X2 4200 with EVGA GeForce 8800GTS. It works fine at my house but when I take it to client's house it doesn't see hard drive, then it boots and locks up. Any .....ANY suggestions?

Sounds like the OP's problem is just rearranging the HDs boot order in the BIOS, and eliminating sources that aren't needed.

But TJ1952, I've never heard of a machine that acts different at different houses.

Not sure what "when it reaches 4th Slave " means. IDE channels have only a master and a slave max. You also have a sata hd drive which has no slave drives. Did you change the boot order in the bios? First boot device should be the sata hd.

Just an observation, your high end vid card may be hobbled by having only 1gb of system ram.

If this is the result of one trip, I'd say something came loose (hd data cable?) during transport. If it has occurred repeatedly, I would think the main power at the other location is faulty.

A little background on this: A couple of months ago by main board went bad. Thus I did not have a means to order anything on line so I went to a local technician. He made me a deal on an ASUS P5GC-MX (Not quite what I want to end up with but OK for now), an Intel e6600 CPU, a WD 250GB SATA II HDD, and a Sony Dual Layer DVDRW drive, and a NVidia 256MBGeForce 7100 Video card. I did not install a Floppy. As soon as I got the rig home I noticed that there were artifacts in the display -little green pin-pricks on the screen, It took me two months get him to finally do something about it. At that time I opted to upgrade to a EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB. We swapped cards and I installed it at home myself. I merely plugged it in and installed the driver. Really worked good except this hang-up when I boot Up. The original boot sequence was this: Primary IDE Master: Optiarc DVD RW, Primary IDE Slave Not detected, Third IDE Master: WDC WD2500JS-OOMHB1, Third IDE Slave: Not Detected, Forth IDE Master: Not Detected, Forth IDE Slave: Not Detected. After I installed the new Video card I noticed the following change: Third IDE Master is now Not Detected, and the WDC WD2500JS-OOMHB1 is installed at The Forth IDE Slave. It appears to me that if I could move the HDD from the Forth IDE Slave up to the Third IDE Master, it should solve my problem as that setup worked before. I hope that this explains my situation a little better. Thanks. PC Dummy

I'm a tad bit confused, but the way i follow, the WDC drive is SATA, check your manual and board connections and make sure that the WDC drive is plugged in SATA connector 1/2 the red slots not SATA 3/4 slots which are black. If it is, check boot order as suggested above.

I used different outlet, different power strip and different mouse, keyboard and monitor. (all worked at my house) There is a Dell 500 hrtz Pentium 3 pluged in and IT WORKS! Put in new box and can't even get to BIOS. Freaks me out. I can't concieve of what it may be. I am going back to the shop from which it came today to have them look at power supply output. Sorry to thread cap, I will post results

And the answer please!

A New motherboard!
Everything is good now. The box gave the builders intermittent freezing. They swapped memory, CPU and then motherboard.
