Hiya,

What would a new piece of hardware be without a little hair loss? .
The windows device manager doesn't seem to detect my plexy. I've got the cdr plugged into the primary ide slot(set to master) and my tosh dvd in the second ide slot(also set to master). Any ideas?

My w2k sometimes doesn't see the plextor. Try to restart without any cd into it.

If I read this correctly, you state that you have the cdr as master on the primary. Your hard drive should be, if not already, the master on your primary and the cdr should be slave. Keep in mind that the cdr is a slower device and will slow the hard drives data transfer rate on the primary. Also you may want to try the dvd as master and the cdr as slave on the secondary ide. Your hard drive would be much faster that way. Although I have heard that cdr and cdrom/dvd on the same channel may produce negative results on disc to disc burns, but if you image first, it should not be an issue. Good luck...

Trying to remember but I don't think the a7v has an second ide controller. Are your hd scsi? Try trading the cables on the drives. Use the cdrw on the secondary and the dvd on primary. That will let you see if it is mb or drive prob. If it sees it on the secondary try setting it as the slave on primary. Of course this can't conflict with the hd. If you have onlt 2 ide channels I would suggest that the drives be set up as hd prim master cdrom (dvd) prim slave. plex on sec master. That way both the drives you will be using to copy to the cdrw will be on different ide channel from cdrw. HTH

FYI jugornot,

The ASUS A7V does in fact have two regular IDE controllers along with two Ultra ATA 100 controllers on board. I'm assuming the IBM Deskstar is attached using the Ultra ATA 100 controller, and that the dvd and cdr are connected using the two regular IDE controllers. That's probably why Rabid didn't mention anything about the hd in the post.

My bad. It sure does. It uses the promise controller. Could problems be related to that? Still might need to set the cdrw to slave on prim ide. It would not degrade performance as long as it is alone. HTH
