I'm building a new pc with the A8N-SLI Premium motherboard.
I mounted the mother board into the ATX case, installed the pci express (16x slot) video card, inserted 2 sticks of memory (pc4000 dual channel), connected the sata hard drive, also installed a dual layer dvd burner, and inserted my cpu which is an AMD Athlon64 3700+.
Upon booting up the system, the received a BIOS Rom Checksum Error accompanied by a single reoccurring monotone beep. So I shutdown the system and then tried to clear the CMOS jumper, and waited 15 seconds and restarted. This resulted in the same error.
Next I tried inserting the ASUS BIOS cd which auto ran the CrashFree BIOS2 setup. The program continued to run and it wrote to the BIOS chip with no write errors. Once everything was completely written, it didn't automatically restart my pc (should it?). It stayed in this state, then after waiting, I manually restarted the machine, removed the disk and it gave the same checksum error.
What are some possible solutions to my problem and what should I try to do next?
Tonight I'm going to attempt to flash the bios from a boot floppy disk and see how that turns out. I will also look at removing/swapping some of the components (especially the ram) and see if that solve my problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
