BIOS update called for?

I am replacing my WD spinner with an SSD. If all is good now, any reason to update for the sake of the new drive? I'm about 5 revisions down from the current BIOS, and none of the revisions for my mobo listed on the Asrock site say anything about SSD compatibility. I ask because of the relative age of the motherboard (over 2 yrs.) TIA!

With that many revisions, there's bound to be something that was fixed that affects you, even if you can't spot it. I would personally update the BIOS just to get current. Other people will have different opinions, of course.

I agree, as long as u can flash safely, it can't really do any harm.

Thanks for the opinions. I was expecting respondents to say just the opposite, as the conventional wisdom on this topic usually runs along the lines of "If it ain't broke...." If I can back up the current code, then I'll go for it.

Yeah BIOS updating has kind of a split going for it. On the one hand "if it ain't broke, dont fix it." On the other hand if you are updating CPUs to a higher reversion, or in this case, making sure your SATA controller plays nice with an SSD, it is good practice.

To get the best performance out of my SSD/any SSD on an Intel board you need to make sure you have the latest version of what Intel calls "rapid storage technology" driver installed for the chipset. You should check if AMD has something similar.

Good luck, and take it from me, once you got it working you'll never go back!
