BIOS vs Asus Probe Differences

Hey everyone,
Question: Which is more trustworthy on an ASUS A7V? The temperature reading from the BIOS, or the temperature reading from ASUS Probe (the latest version)? I ask this because, the difference between them is as high as 30 degrees celcius, (30 in BIOS, high 50's / low 60's in Asus Probe). Even after running the system for hours, a quick bios check of the temperature shows temps in the 30's while, as soon as windows starts, Asus Probe reflects temps in the 50's. Which is more accurate and reliable??
thanks.

How fast is the CPU. That's funny my Probe and BIOS readings are the same. Again, how fast is the CPU. My 1gHz is running around 50C so...

I am running a Asus CUBX and a P3B-F and both have similar Probe vs. BIOS temp. reading differences. In my case, the Probe reports the CPU temp to be about 7 degrees lower than the BIOS temp.

I think the BIOS is correct, not Probe. But keep in mind that If you check your temp just after your system has booted up windows, it will be a little warmer since the boot up process will load the cpu a fair amount.

On my systems, if I run Sandra and check the temp that way, it matches the bios temp. I wish I knew why Sandra can read the temp correctly but Probe can not. Good luck.

I tried MBM and saw the same temps as Probe. I know they are wrong because the CPU temp is comming in a fair amount lower than the board temp. It must have something to do with the hardware monitoring chip Asus uses.

how did you set up MBM for use? Did you set it to read from the "asus" sensors, since asus uses a custom temp monitoriting chip.

I saw SiSoft Sandra showing 148C processor's temperature with Duron600 on Chaintech 7AIA... but I have never trusted that piece of software anyway BTW my ASUS A7V shows very strange numbers when reading cooler fan speed. According to it, my Titan Majesty's cooler makes 12-20k RPM. Also, -12V voltage seems to be out of spec (-13.4V) and ASUS Probe complains about it. PSU is from AOpen, ATX 2.03 compliant and AMD approved. Other voltages are pretty correct, mostly just a bit over nominal, 12V is always 12.0x. Should I worry about that abnormal -12V or not ?

Mikewarrior2,
When I set up MBM I tried all of the possible choices for the sensors but only two gave values - I do not use a thermister (sp?) probe. It was not hard to tell which was the CPU and which was the case temp. Unfortunately, as I stated, the CPU temp showed unrealistically low.

i'm running a ThunderBird 900 on an Asus a7v. Asus Probe says during idle, my cpu is at 58 to 60 degrees celcius, the bios however says its around 30 celcius. I'll give mbm a try, but it seems to me that everyone is having temperature differences amongst all types of monitors right?

if i were to install MBM, would i have to uninstall Asus PC Probe first? or could i run both and compare them at the same time? or if i can only use one at a time, could i have both installed and run one as long as the other is disabled?

I have a thermal sensor from my old abit be-6. I'd like to just hook it up to an lcd (or get one of those premade ones with a similar temp probe). my question is, where do I mount the probe on an SECC2 p3 (800eb, if it makes a difference). i have a vos32 on it. where would I mount it for the most realistic temp. info?

I find my BIOS temps are about 3 degres higher than what Probe reports. Did anyone notice the amount of resources it hogs?

airfoil: why yes, yes I did. ugh...

that's another reason why I just want to put a thermister in there and hood it up to an LCD display on my case. no cpu power required to show it that way hell, I only really use asus probe for checking out the voltages and making sure everything is still kosher. so far so good
