bios won't detect ram

I just got some ram from the COMPUSA deal. It's single sided PC133 ram. I installed it, but my bios won't detect it, it still says I have the same amount of ram. Also, windows says there is a protection error and I need to restart. When I take the ram out, my bios says memory decreased, even though it didn't detect the increase in the first place. I have an intel AL440LX motherboard with two 32MB ram already installed.

Did you try the new module by itself? What kind of memory do you already have in it?
You sure you motherboard supports the new module?

I kept the two 32MB ram on it. The motherboard should support 384 MB with three ram slots.

as far as I know, LX motherboards can't handle pc133 ram.

Edit: As a matter of fact, here's a snippet from the AL440LX "homepage" at Intel's site regarding memory:

The motherboard supports the following memory features:

168-pin DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
66 MHz SDRAM only
Non-ECC (64-bit) and ECC (72-bit) memory
3.3 V memory only
Single- or double-sided DIMMs in the following sizes:

blah blah blah...so, as you can see, it specifically says
66 MHZ SDRAM ONLY

So there ARE mobos that arent backwards compatible in bus speed/ram?

I have the same problem with my HP Pavilion 8566C desktop. I don't know what's the motherboard is, but it won't recongnize the 64 MB RAM from CompUSA. I will try to test the RAM first, see if it works fine and then pull the original RAM out and put the CompUSA RAM to the original slot and try again.
One friend said he had this problem with his DELL desktop and he went to DELL customer service center and downloaded a patch for BIOS and get it fixed perfectly, I wonder if it works for HP.
