Ive had the exact same hardware configuration for at the least 1 year. The same installation of windows, and very minimal software changes ( atleast anything that I would think cause this problem ).

The past couple of days when i would start up my computer I would get the following message:

"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER."

I thought maybe my hard drive was going bad, and that the windows installation had become corrupt. But I don't think thats the case. In the BIOS when im receiving this problem it doesn't recognize the Hard Drive or my cd rom. Both of which are on the same IDE cable.

Normally it takes about 3-4 restarts of the computer and then it finally pushes through and loads windows without a problem. Today though.. It took me about 45minutes just to load into windows.

Things i've tried:
-Resetting CMOS.
-Using Hard drive alone, cd rom alone. neither will get recognized alone or together.
-replaced the IDE cable
-changed molex on the devices.

I think something is going bad, or atleast obviously wrong. Anyone have any suggestions?

Power Supply.
If it doesn't give the correct voltage to spin up HD, Bios won't see it at boot,

Yeah, I had a similiar problem once, it was my power supply. I thought it was my HD and I ended up wiping windows and then I couldn't even get through the re-install without getting a blue screen.

Another indicator I had was constant bad blocks when running scandisk back to back to back because things were constantly being saved incorrectly.

Interesting...

So if its not giving enough voltage to spin up the hard drive, why won't it see the CD rom either?

The CD-ROM is powered, it will open and the green light is on. Even though its not recognized in the BIOS.

And my computer is running fine right now, has been most of the day except for starting it up this morning. Took 3-4 restarts but its been fine since.

Is there anything I can do to test the PS? Its a Thermaltake 480W that I've had for maybe a year now...
