Those minimums are bad...though in the article he said that he isn't sure where they come form because they don't affect the game.

Here is a valid test from Sweclockers with the newest drivers from both: Catalyst 13.3 Beta 3 and Geforce Drivers 314.22 WQHL

A ton more valid than that PCgameshardware which have been spreading FUD many times.

Red means "lowest value". green bar means "average value".

Seems a little low.
Town Centre mins and max for my 680 were

Min. 62.41
Max. 92.59
Av. 82.95

Yes a lot higher minimum FPS from AMD but

Interestingly, for both resolutions is that Nvidia's models consistently show very low minimum values compared to AMD's diton. If this is due to the game itself and the test or some bug in the drivers of writing unclear. Subjectively, however, the experience affected minimally, suggesting an isolated problem.

Your CPU is running @4.7GHz. Sweclockers CPU was running at 4.4GHz. Who knows, could be other variables.

There is also some tweaks to reduce the minimum FPS on Nvidia cards
Go to your STEAM folder (STEAM> SteamApps> Common> Bioshock Infinite> Engine> Config) Open Base Engine search for "Pool Size" below Texture Streaming and change 140 to 512 or 1024 depends on how much VRAM you have. Save the file and right click on the Base Engine and remove properties click the "Read Only" then press the "execution" and start the game, however, you get to choose if all your graphics settings.

I noticed the difference right away, floating on seamlessly with a GTX 670 with the latest drivers. Do you have an Nvidia card, Combine this with what yet another user write later in this thread, namely to turn off the "Ambient occlusion" in the game and turn it into Nivida control panel instead of this approach seems to be an AMD "Feature"

I am getting crazy low min framerates on the benchmark with my 670.

Town Center
Average: 79.99
Min: 31.83
Max: 105.20

I don't notice a hiccup or anything during the benchmark, so IDK. This is at 1080p Ultra DX11 DDOF.

I have experienced dips as well.... For the most part, for 95% of the game - it's extremely smooth, but in certain transitions the framerate will just floor. Using 680 SLI. Perhaps that is why the minimums are so low on the nvidia cards. I think it has something to do with the DOF graphic option, but i'll have to double check later.

I'm sure they will work to fix this in a future beta driver. Anyway - it doesn't keep me away from the game, i'm loving it. Definite GOTY material.

I'm getting dips when testing with my 9800GT when I enter a new "area".

I'm not sure if it's driver, I actually haven't updated my hybrid driver but I'm doing that now, or if it's vram since the game doesn't like 512mb, gobble gobble!

Just ran another bench on my 670 with just Ultra DX11 without DDOF, and my Max and Average fps jumped a significant amount, but my minimums actually dropped an equally significant amount.

Town Center 1080p Ultra DX11:
Average: 94.12
Min:26.51
Max:116.12

Town Center 1080p Ultra DX11 DDOF:
Average: 79.99
Min: 31.83
Max: 105.20

This game is an unoptimized mess. I can't enjoy myself because of the stupid frame rate issues. The majority of it is smooth as butter, but looking in a random direction and it gets laggy and choppy for no reason. I tried some of the .ini tweaks going around and those mitigated it somewhat, but those tweaks introduced screen tearing in place of the choppiness in the same areas...even with vsync turned on.

It's really stupid things too, like looking at the ground or the wall in some random area and it gets sluggish and choppy. Then there's going into new areas where it pauses for a frame or two and skips. What a mess. Will wait for a patch. BTW, the quality setting has no bearing on this...high, very high, ultra... all the same. Also have new nvidia drivers.

Benchmark results:

2560x1440 Ultra preset:

Avg 66.59 Min 19.69 Max 234.54

2560x1440 Very High

Avg 74.57 Min 24.26 Max 290.03

Other than a buttload of tearing, I didn't notice any of the sluggishness in the benchmark...probably because I'm not controlling it and can't feel it. Unfortunately, whatever this is...it makes it unplayable. I was trying to do the shooting carnival game and there was massive lag/sluggishness/choppiness when trying to aim... but if I turn around... its like over 100 FPS...makes no sense.

Amd Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz
gtx 570
4 gigs of ddr3 ram
Windows 7 64 bit

Game does not run good for me. Trying to run it on Ultra and or High graphics without AA on at 1920x1200 resolution and I am constantly getting stutters and freezes and unfreezes. I've asked this on Overclock, but really haven't gotten any responses I understand. Do I update my Gpu or Cpu in the future? I've heard in past that GPU is much more important than CPU.

Was this game suppose to be a graphics masterpiece like Crysis 3? Whats up with this game taking a dump on my rig or was it poorly optimized like someone said?

Just played about 10 minutes of the game, its really pretty , I didnt notice the drop in FPS but I know it was there in spots due to frame tracking in my keyboard LCD. Like I said though, the city in this game is crazy beautiful.

Should not run that bad on gtx 570. It does use 1.5gb at 1080p in benchmark at times. On ultra with DDOF.
The game is getting praise for it's gameplay, themes, alternate timeline story.

Isn't there a built in benchmark you can run Balla? thought i read there was a batch file or somsuch to run it in the game dir.

I haven't played it yet, but I have a second GTX 680 sitting beside me on my desk at work, looking forward to getting home throwing it in and cranking up this game

What, why you running it on a 9800GT instead of the vastly faster 7950 that you just got? :ninja:

Hehe.. you just got a big curiosity, ha! So, what do you mean by "decent" on a 9800GT? Is it still very PRETTY? Your snapshot looks pretty good, but what do you think, exactly?

I think it's hard to really justify these newer cards when old cheap ones can do nearly the same thing. I bet DOF, which I don't even like, and AO which is purely a luxury tax would completely destroy it.

The biggest draw back as I can explain it really has to be the memory at this point. Tomb Raider which I finished up on my 9800GT couldn't do anything fancy but it looks alright. The biggests detractor was the textures, I can visually see a marked difference in detail between what is allowed on a .5GB vs 3GB (1.5 used in TR) cards at 1080p. Obviously none of this should be news to anyone, however I think - myself included, people tend to get caught up in the hype of more is always better.

It would be folly to argue the 7950 isn't vastly superior to the 9800GT visually, however the question I've asked myself since switching back down to a single 470, and playing more and more with the 9800GT w/o using the 6pin has been, do the visuals in the game increase immersion, or do they only add to screenshot glamour.

With Tomb Raider TressFX was probably the biggest thing I missed, well probably next to the higher quality textures. I did also actually find myself admiring the cinematic quality that DOF adds when doing cut senses, but I didn't care too much for it in actual gameplay. In Bioshock I haven't really gone very far, so I'm not going to comment on this aspect.

However this was a cheapo $50 card in late 2009, it's the 512 version with a small bus and DDR3. It's by no means a 8800, but rambling, rambling, rambling... lolz - Anyways I think as I get older, unless there are some leapfrog advancements I might find myself holding on to cards longer and longer - each generation we double performance, but each generation doesn't bring double the IQ quality. In fact it's considerably less return than that, so while in sheer power graphics cards have come a long ways since this cheap ol junk card, visuals and their fps haven't kept pace.

In order to continue driving PC GPU sales, I think they're going to need to come up with a better way to add IQ than what is currently being done with effects like OGSSAA, AO, and AA. I also think texture variety needs to go up as well, not just texture size.
