Something happened I thought never would - completely bored of the game, and not even interested in finishing it.

Really hooked me at first, but I'm a gamer that prefers action over any story elements, and honestly the combat portion of the game isn't that good. I wish they had taken all the polish in the enviroment and story elements, and re-routed that manpower to gameplay. Seems like the story/setting had thousands of people working on it, and maybe 10 on the rest the game (combat, vigors, etc - all feels thrown together on top).

You really should finish it. The last hour or so is when the story gets truly revealed.

I feel the same way. The story/setting is awesome, but the combat is average at best. I feel like the combat and plasmid mechanics were better in the first two Bioshock games. However, I'm taking my time and I'm not even half way through at this point, so hopefully things improve.

I picked up BS:I and Tomb Raider at the same time, but spend more time playing the latter.

the weapons feel so week, especially against the bigger guys and the automaton things.

Those are my two biggest issues with the games.
I hated that only a couple of enemies used Vigors against you, using powers was something that they got right with the Splicers and changed completely with the more simple soldier enemies in Infinite.

The only large guy that I find troublesome would be Handymen. Patriots can be mind controlled as well as turrets, and the latter takes very few shots to destroy. Patriots are a bit more resilient, but you can damage them while they're mind controlled.

Damn, this game gets difficult on Hard Mode. There are boss monsters that take forever to kill. It doesn't help that ammo is limited against them.

I'm trying to figure out some good ways to use my vigors to help me out. Most boss battles aren't that hard, but Handymen are just a huge pain in the rear. The biggest problem is that I keep forgetting that the game is usually nice enough to give me a RPG somewhere in the large area where I'm fighting. The problem is that I never think to look for it!

One thing I want to do is upgrade the Charge vigor. The one upgrade makes you invulnerable and restores your shield upon charging, and the other adds an explosion after you charge. Handymen are weak to explosions, so I can zap him with my upgraded Shock Jockey (increased stun time), and then charge him. I also use the hat that gives you 4 seconds of invulnerability when you use any health restoration item. That invulnerability has no cooldown and even works on simple food items. So, if my health is low, sometimes, I will just scour bodies for food.

Heh, I wonder how Aikouka feels now... :awe:

Sad. :'( I'm at the (not much of a spoiler, but I'll tag it anyway)

right now, so I think I'm doing a bit better. I also think I finally have all the vigors, and I'm trying to find the best way to use them at this point.

The possession is great because when it turns on the other enemies, they do some good damage on it. I love turning two patriots against each other.

I'm having fun playing the game for now. I'm near Tinktown (spelling?) and I like many aspects of the game, especially exploring even though it's pretty straightforwarding.

Great game but I too fear it'll have a hard time keeping me hooked. We'll see.

There's a piece of gear that gives 50% extra damage to handymen. Do you have that equipped? Might be worth swapping to it when you see one.

How do you equip gear besides right when you find it ? What is the gameplay menu because I press m or esc and I just get the regular options, audio, exit menu.

Hm, I have a ton of gear, but I don't recall ever getting that. Hopefully I didn't accidentally skip over it!

I think all but a few pieces of the gear spawn randomly, so you have just as much chance of picking it up at the next place as you did the last. The upside of that is that you can keep reloading the checkpoint until the gear drop is the one you want.

oh man, I was so pissed. I finally scrounged up 5 lockpicks and backtracked through 20 minutes of empty halls to open a chest that I had to skip earlier.

Know what was in it?
about $200 and a health pack I was expecting a sweet piece of gear or an elixir at least ...

20 minutes? I found the one lockpick I was short about 5 minutes away in a candy store just down the street.

Every single safe I opened contained ~200 silver eagles.

The lockpicks get more plentiful the further you go. At one time I had over 20, and I unlock every safe, door, etc. I know early on I may have missed a door or two because I didnt quite know what to look for, but I dont think the lockpicks are rare. Probably always a few more lying around than what you actually need.

I hit the max of 30 several hours before finishing the game. You can't pick up more than that.

Cool, I probably missed some early on. This game is fantastic by the way. The art direction and atmosphere are almost intoxicating. I can't wait to finish it

Nah, you just get far, far more later on. Instead of finding a single, random lock pick, you find items with 3 or 5 picks, and you even find them on corpses of tougher enemies such as Firemen. I think I have around 23 at the moment. Also, make sure to check the ammo vendor, as it sometimes sells a limited number (3) of lock picks.

EDIT:

I think that piece of gear (50% more damage to Handymen) was a preorder bonus.

Yeah, you're right. I actually originally had a code for the Industrial Revolution thing as I pre-ordered the Songbird Edition awhile back (and cancelled it about a week prior to release). Unfortunately, I realized that I deleted the e-mail in a mass purging way too late.
