You seem to be more of a sit back and snipe sort of player, but that tends to bore me too much... I want to be smack dab in the action. If I could rename my character, I would call him John Rambo!

haha Not really, but at this point in the game I pretty much knew every way the game was going to attack me, so I was in cruise control mode. If these were normal enemies I would have just used possession and looked for goodies while they fought each other. The combat in the game was fairly simplistic if you take a second to see what they are trying to do. The first half of the game I didnt use any vigors, but as the game went on I just used them as a shortcut. With maxed out hand cannon and carbine, and an appropriate clothing combo, I didnt need to strategize at all. It just went into the combat area, head shot everyone, then moved on. The only interesting fights were with the handymen, but the rails made that really easy.

You guys are ruining this thread with the spoilers, for the sake of others please tag them.

I don't recall anyone mentioning anything that happens in the story, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

They would always shock the rails if I tried to use them too much.

This game uses FXAA for its antialiasing, right?

Gotta say, it does a great job. Even Nvidia's driver level FXAA option has come a long way since the injector was first released.

so I'm about to throw in towel on this one...there seems to be a distinct lack of balance in the game. Some of the boss fights on hard are nearly impossible
(I'm stuck on ghost of comstock for about 30 minutes/30 deaths w/ no progress at all)
but on normal difficulty, you can beat the whole thing with your eyes closed. The boss fights were annoyingly hard to this point, but not a game breaker. Unfortunately, it looks like it's gotten to that point now.

I agree that some fights can be really annoying. That's the fight that gave me the most trouble other than
the airship
. I mentioned it a little bit ago, but I used the upgraded Charge vigor heavily to beat that fight. The problem is that she moves a lot, which could nullify other Vigors quite a bit. Upgraded Shock Jockey could also work quite well. I had somewhere around 1600 silver before I headed to that fight, so I just reloaded, bought upgrades, and won.

EDIT:

If you watch my video
which is actually the second time you fight her.. so you BETTER get used to it, because that isn't the last
, you'll see what I do.

Upgrade charge so that you get the shield recharge and invincibility. This is literally the only time I even used it, but it turns a very frustrating fight into a shockingly easy fight. I basically ignored the guys she was resurrecting and just hit her with it over and over, firing my gun at her during the brief spin up period. If you can afford the explosive damage upgrade as well it doesn't even take that many hits to put her down. If you don't have the explosive upgrade you'll want to have the blood to salt gear because it'll keep your salts up while you spam charge.

Edit: I also found a gear combo that makes the last fight ridiculously easy on hard.

Yeah, he does, but I would jump on them to get away, drop off, and hit him with the RPG or hand cannon. I would actually like it when he would grab the rail, because he was vulnerable and I would just unload on him. Plus, either the game or the handyman would tell you when he was about to zap the rail.

I'm almost tempted to replay some of the chapters on hard just to see what the fuss is about, but its not one of those games that has any replay value for me. Maybe if there is some DLC that furthers the story significantly, I'll do it on hard.

Well, enemies just seem to have more health and deal more damage. They might also be more accurate, but I'm not too sure about that. There are some enemies that take a ridiculous amount of bullets to kill if you don't try and aim for their crit spot like the Firemen. You can also see how much more damage that boss took compared to when you fought her... it's like picking away at a brick wall with a pencil.

I'm tempted to try 1999 Mode, but who am I kidding... I'm way too lazy to do that.

the stupid part is once you hit the checkpoint on the second battle, the way the level is designed, you can't go back.

ok, got to the last level...once again the difference in difficulty shows up...just ridiculous. I just went ahead and watched the ending online. No desire to waste time on this anymore. Glad I didn't pay for it. I discrepancy in difficulty between "beat it in your sleep" medium and "impossible boss fights" hard is too much to overlook.

While there may be a disparity, I have to disagree with this whole "it's too tough!" mentality. I was listening to TotalBiscuit's thoughts on the whole game yesterday, and he was complaining about the Siren fight for a good bit during the video. Why do people not want a challenge? Frankly, I think the problem is that the game doesn't have enough real boss fights, so when you get to boss fights like the Siren or the Airship event, you're woefully unprepared. The game normally just tosses tons of enemies at you and maybe a tougher one at the end ( Handyman, Fireman or Crow-guy ).

I played Hard all the way to the final fight. I tried and tried, but age must be catching up to me. I had to scale it down to Normal to beat it.

Ghost: The shirt that has a chance to give salt on kills + hat that spreads Devil's Kiss + fully upgraded Devil's Kiss + spam Devil's Kiss on her while she's halfway through the spawn = bunch of dead ghosts chaining explosions everywhere. She died in about 20 seconds after 4 rounds of summoning while I stood in a crypt just lobbing fireballs at her. This was what I did on both my Hard and 1999 mode playthroughs.

Ship deck: Songbird any of the zeppelins you can see, possess rocket guys or a mechanized patriot. I think I only used Songbird 3-4 times on the ship deck (was constantly on cooldown from zeppelins), got pretty hairy at times with the mechanized patriots.

There are usually a bunch of rockets all over the place that I used to aoe trash down with and pepper guns that the patriots drop. Fully upgraded possession lets you get rid of the hard to kill rocket guys really easily, especially if you can get them while the airships are flying by before they land. I died 3 times during the fight on 1999 (pepper guns hurt) but I one shot the battle with 25% of the ship still left.

I didn't find the stash of rocket guns until after I won. Would have been nice to know about them. lol.

Fair enough. My bigger gripe is the discrepancy between medium and hard. I mean I tried medium and I wouldn't be surprised if I could beat the whole thing with less than an handful of deaths...it's a yawner. On hard, there were boss fights that I literally died dozens of times. I just think medium should have really been "easy," keep hard as hard, and then add a middle difficulty.

My possession is not upgraded at all so it does very little against the rocket guys and the patriots. The best thing for the rocks seems to be the bronco for me.

Is there a particular zepplin I have to bring down to beat it or is it more so just hang on for a certain duration of time?

The first vigor upgrade in the game is 50 silver eagles and makes possession targets suicide themselves. You get this literally right after you get the skyhook. The only other upgrade for possession makes it 50% cheaper. You should at least have the first one
and should have no problems using it on either of those targets outside of cost. The rocket guys will suicide when they're done.

The big zeppelins should be the first target, I just hit anything I could see to be honest.

The first attack zeplin I took it out with an RPG. As for the larger ones, I used song bird. Use the rails and take out as many lower end targets as you can. For the patriots I just used upgraded devils kiss and sometimes the shock jockey. I mostly used the carbine or machine gun on these guys.

You are right about the suicide...but that upgrade does not work on the patriots right?

Correct, mechanicals do not suicide. It doesn't last all that long against the patriots, but they can usually do a little bit of damage/take out 1-2 guys and you are free to shoot them in the back during it.

Just keep hitting the patriot with possession until it is dead or it kills everyone.

after reading the tips here, I beat it on my first try. Here is what I did just in case anyone is curious:

1. Use the bird on any ship in sight, esp on the zepplin.
2. Posses/suicide the rock laucher guys
3. When a new ship is coming in, get to the top where the sniper rifles are and pick off the small guys
4. Use rocket launcher and/or hand cannot to take out the patriots.
5. Use the pepper gun from the first patriot to take out the next one and so on. Take out the easy guys with the sniper rifle or shot gun, save the pepper gun for the patriots.

this final chapter has essentially ruined the entire game for me. However much I cared about the story has been completely fucked because of how fucking ridiculous this last part is.

I almost think there might be something wrong with my game because I start off doing awesome, and then it gets to a point where i cant find a goddam ship to use the bird on, and im just fighting endless waves of patriots.

I havent been this pissed off at a video game in a long time. I honestly think the deus ex boss fights are nothing compared to this fucking awful fight in this game.

yeah i tried it like 5 times on hard, then just said fuck it and dropped it to easy so i could get the ending. I was already at my wit's end fighting that stupid other boss 3 times.
