I was never a huge fan of the original Bioshock. Though I think all the issues with the PC version in its early days tainted my view of it. I'm going to wait to see what other people think. Recommended system requirements for it are steep. 30GB hard drive space! OMG, that'll take almost five hours to download on my connection.

max payne 3 was 30gb too, took forever to download then i installed and deleted the file (from gmg), something went wrong so I had to download it again.

1. Ken Levine is at the helm.
2. No more GFWL. Yes, you heard right, Games for windows live is not in Infinite.
3. It will be using steamworks for DRM.
4. It will have tons of graphical options according to 2k games

What's not to love? I'm confident that the game will be great. Levine didn't disappoint us with Bioshock 1, and while he was gone for part 2....I still enjoyed that as well. I'm glad he's back for part 3 - he has never produced a bad game, I feel really good that Infinite will live up to the franchise.... I cannot wait. I loved both bioshock games.

Buy the hard copy. It's still a steamworks game IIRC so it'll still be linked to your account, but at least it'll be a quick initial install from the discs.

Yeah the hardcopy is your best bet. But I remember getting the disc of bf3 and it still downloaded a ton of updates too.

I wasn't a big fan of the first, but I might check it out. I didn't like the plasmid stuff. I spent too much time trying to figure out how to use the vending machine and i got bored.

I had 4 issues with Bioshock.

1) GFWL
2) Headache inducing low FOV
3) Unbearable mouse acceleration
4) Release date late in the UK.

This time around these are my conditions:

1) GFWL = No sale, if this really has gone then great!
2-3) If low FOV or mouse acceleration are present I won't buy the game until they're officially patched or we're given options in the menu to set them appropriately.
4) If they release the game late in the UK I won't buy the game until it reaches 10% of it's launch price.

*edit*

I've just read it has a world wide release date this time around, if it arrives on steam the same time for the UK as everywhere else then that's 4) dealt with.

1) Bioshock did not use GFWL. It was available via Windows Live direct download but there is absolutely no GFWL in game, Now Bioshock 2 did, but you stated Bioshock.
2) You can change the FOV via .ini tweak.
3) Unbearable mouse acceleration. The version I played had no mouse acceleration, unless you enabled it within your mouse driver.
4) Yeah and....that's completely up to you.

Now bioshock 2 did use GFWL, but Bioshock 1 did not. You explicitly stated that Bioshock 1 used GFWL which is absolutely not true. Furthermore, as stated Infinite is a steamworks game.

I really don't think it's for you. I mean, vending machine? Really? Well I won't get into that, but from what it sounds like you're more into multiplayer FPS games. Which is cool, I like those too.

If you're looking for that kind of dynamic this isn't it. This is a different type of game. It sounds like you want a game you can jump in and feel comfortable within 30 seconds - especially since you gave up after using a vending machine for a minute. I'm not saying that to be condescending - I like those type of quick action games as well! - but Bioshock hasn't ever been the type of game where you can jump in and immediately feel comfortable within 30 seconds - you explore, develop your character through plasmid upgrades and learn of the story line. Know what I mean? It's a different play dynamic......you can't play in 10 minute tidbits and feel content with it. I personally felt that Bioshock 1 was amazing at release - it takes time to figure things out but you are rewarded immensely once you do. It's a great single player experience. Bioshock 2 wasn't quite as good, although I liked that as well.

Anyway. I'm pretty excited that Levine is back at the helm for Infinite.

Well then. Apparently you didn't play Bioshock. Did you use a google search to develop your points here?

I own both Bioshock 1 and 2 on steam, Bioshock 1 I pre-ordered and played on day 0 (and by day 0 I mean day -2 because in the UK while you could pre-load the game on day 0, you couldn't actually play the game until 2 days later!)

Purely from memory the FOV fix via the ini file failed on several occasions, during level transitions, during zoom in/out of the weapons, possibly with re-load of saves, it was a fucking mess that presented nothing but problems throughout the entire game. In fact if I remember correct the ini tweak was only possible after the patch, pre-patch I think we had to use the FOV fixer exe from WSGF - I distinctly remember Ken making a public announcement to the fix author that if they stepped forward he'd buy them a graphics card for their service.

The mouse acceleration was most definitely enabled pre-patch, again I'm not sure if that was fixed in the patch, either way the patch was something like 12-18 months after the launch (inexcusable). If you're claiming the game didn't have extremely strong mouse acceleration on at launch then I think it's probably you who hasn't played the game! No it wasn't windows/driver acceleration.

I'm not sure about GFWL, it might have been Bioshock 2, I'm struggling to remember I've not played either in a long time, I vividly remember having several game breaking issues with GFWL and Bioshock, it's possible you're right that it may have been the sequel.

I'm not a "bandwagon" hater, in fact I'd describe bioshock generally as a "flawed masterpiece" which is a phrase I nicked from someone else years ago. While the game was very good on a lot of levels it was also frustratingly flawed, the FOV and Mouse acceleration issues while trivial to some are actually headache inducing and are pervasive throughout the entire game.

Furthermore FORCING the UK/EU gamers to wait 2 days before they could play, despite actually having the game pre-orderd and pre-loaded, sitting on their hard drive ready to play was inexcusable.

It is possible to take legitimate issue with these kind of problems without being a "bandwagon hater", and if they've fixed all of these things with Infinite then GREAT, it will be a day 1 purchase for me without a doubt

I love both Bioshock 1 & 2 so I'll definitely be getting this game. Visuals are looking amazing, and the scenery is really drawing me in. I do prefer the underwater city, but doing something different and innovative is never a bad thing.

I'm also very happy it's not going to use GFWL, because that's usually a big turn off on a new release to me.

I actually need to finish playing Bioshock 2. It and Max Payne 3 have been sitting installed on my computer for a while while I've moved on to other games. Yet I never quite finished either of them.

Doesn't look like the Steam preorder bonus for the free X-Com is going to happen.

I pre-ordered last week, and it was at 81% to the second tier then... a week later it is at 88% to the second tier. Either Steam set the amount of pre-orders really high, most people are pre-ordering from Greenman or Amazon, or the interest in the game really isn't that high.

I don't get it. Never had a FOV issue, never had a problem with GFWL except having to log in twice every session to start the game but no big deal. No crashes, no issues at all, just two very solid games and I am looking forward to this next one. 10/10

I probably didn't like Bioshock series because the first one would not play on sounds on my system, and they wouldn't fix it (well known issue). After that I pretty much said fug it. I've actually bought that game 2 times now and still yet to play through it.

I'm definitely getting the game... especially after I already purchased it via the AMD vouchers. However, I originally had a Songbird edition pre-ordered for the PC, but I might end up cancelling that. As much as I like silly, nerdy things to put on my shelf, I don't think I like spending $150 vs. $25-30 on it (coupon price per game).

Furthermore FORCING the UK/EU gamers to wait 2 days before they could play, despite actually having the game pre-orderd and pre-loaded, sitting on their hard drive ready to play was inexcusable.

Isn't that because new releases typically come out on Tuesday in the United States, but they come out on Thursday in Europe?

i'm excited. the first one is among my favorite games ever. I also enjoyed number 2. I am not sure which system to buy it for yet...probably whichever I can get it for cheapest. Which is presumably PC, due to the coupons being given out with video cards. I'm gonna need to buy one of those coupons I think. I shan't pay full retail price!

I'm intrigued but I'm really trying to hold off on buying games at full price. I can definitely wait a couple of weeks or so after Bioshock Infinite is released for the price is lowered or there's a sale.

I did buy Simcity at full price though.

I'm the same. I'm hoping I can just take in the story and shoot with guns, and not worry about the power stuff. Otherwise, maybe I'll just watch a walkthrough.

You can probably find it heavily discounted on various FS/T forums. I mean with the AMD promo going around - a lot of folks are selling those.

I have a feeling something is wrong with Infinite. Not Colonial Marines bad but still... Hope I'm wrong about it because the story looks neat.

I'm pretty meh about it. I'll most likely sell my code. Too many other games I bought recently waiting to be played.

Loved 1, in fact it might be my favorite game ever. Skipped 2 after the kid has so much trouble with the silly DRM. I know this is the way things are going but I don't need to like it or support it.

I believe the mouse acceleration is caused by having the "Mouse precession" option on in Windows. Same problem I had with BO II since it was all hardware driven (which is controlled by windows).

With no GFWL, I am definitely excited. The slow motion and low FOV of big daddy BioShock II was a little much for me.
