Have any of you guys beat your first play-through on hard? I am having a hell of a time staying alive on what I assume is the final battle on Command Deck. I cant seem to stay alive long enough to take down those vox airships before they destroy my ships core...
Yes. I beat it on hard, but I did fail the event the first time. Here are some tips...
- They usually send multiple mechanized patriots at once, so mind control one of them when you can.
- Enemies don't seem to be capable of damaging the ship until they're up near the controls.
- Fully Upgraded Shock Jockey can pretty much stun all enemies on the ground at once.
- Make sure to send the Songbird after the biggest ships. You win when you defeat the two Zeppelins.
- Do not send him after the ships with the huge guns. I took one out with a Shock Jockey + 1 sniper rifle shot to the huge gun.
- Using Mind Control on some beefier humanoid enemies (RPG guys, etc.) can be helpful because they commit suicide when the mind control ends. They can also deal a good amount of damage to other enemies instead of you!
Unlike the first time, I took out the patriots much faster by ensuring I had one mind controlled, which kept the enemies off me. I used the rails to get behind everyone and shocked the enemy patriot (makes him vulnerable) and then shot him in the back.
As for clothing, I think I use...
Hat: Sheltered Life - Grant invulnerability when gaining health from snack and medical kits.
Shirt: Blood to Salt - Enemies provide Salts upon death 40% of the time
Pants: Urgent Care - Shield recharge delay is decreased by 2 seconds, but shield recharge time is increased by 2x.
Boots: Vampire's Embrace - Melee kills give health.
The Shirt allows me to use my Charge vigor
a lot as I usually kill someone with each strike or a bullet or two afterward. You can also use the upgraded Return to Sender vigor to gain ammunition (there's a similar clothing item that has a 40% chance to restore ammo).
EDIT:
To give you an idea of my upgrades... I think I've upgraded all vigors but Undertow, Bucking Bronco and Feast of Crows. As for weapons, I've barely upgraded any of them. I have the Carbine, Machine Gun and Sniper Rifle fully upgraded as those are my main weapons that I stick with. I've chosen a few cheaper upgrades for other items such as the damage upgrades, which are usually only ~300 coins.
