I hear it's great, but all the anti-copying software hoops you have to jump through are a considerable annoyance. Only buy if you want Securom on your system with no way to get rid of it.

LOL

Was wondering when the gaming industry was going to cut it's own foot off.

But good deal for this game nonetheless!

If you already have Securerom on your system *argh* or don't care, it's a great FPS. I'm really enjoying it.

Note that Circuit City has the PC version of Bioshock for $39.95 available in-store.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this game. Can't go wrong with it IMO... best game to come out in a while.

I respect your opinions, but you're both taking crazy pills.

Granted, this game is not perfect, but it's the best thing to come along in a very long while. Every aspect is top-notch: gameplay, graphics, level design, voice acting. Not to mention this game has disputible the best atmosphere and story in any game... ever. A disappointment...? I'm just confused by that.

I'm playing it for the second time now, and it's better than the first time around. $35 is a steal for this game. Heck, $80 would be worth it.

Possibly for people who mainly play first person shooters and action RPGs.

Ever play a story driven, party based, cRPG that focuses on plot, dialog, and character development such as PlaneScape: Torment?

Gotta agree with this. I'll add that the music is top notch as well. I've played through a couple of parts twice and it hasn't gotten boring at all.

I am half way through it now. Great game, perfect no. Great fun however, top notch music and graphics. I am running it on a core duo machine with Vista, no problems running it for me either.

Bioshock game is ok, Sony's freedom violating protection sux. As I stated many times before, just because of that BS hack they install on the machine, I am not buying the game. Ever. Even for $0.99 with free shipping.

I picked up Brothers in Arms for $2 + shipping. PWNZAGA!

So you bought a Starforce-protected game (Brothers in Arms), but you refuse to buy Bioshock even when they remove SecuROM in a few months like they've promised they will?

Interesting standards.

I'm gonna say this is probably a much better route to the 360 one, unless you like RROD. I value my 360 so i don't try to trash it with games documented for doing so

Does this game need to be activated like Halo 2?
Or, can you buy it used?

It does require activation immediately after installation, an internet connection is part of the system requirements. There was a big brouhaha over the limited number of re-installs you could perform, but those restrictions have been loosened considerably. I believe currently you are allowed five installs each on five separate machines before you hit the SecuROM wall, and as previously mentioned, the developers have promised to remove SecuROM entirely at some future point.

Frankly, this is the best game I have ever played. I'm simply awed by the creativity and attention to detail that went into this game, and haven't enjoyed playing a game like this since the original Half-Life. Opinions will vary, but I think the quality of this game speaks for itself. And unlike a lot of games I've played on day one of release, Bioshock has not crashed on me even once. Pretty amazing these days for a version 1.0 game, if you ask me.

Yes. Ultima VII and Balder's Gate II were the ones for me. And I'll agree: those games are more immersive inherently (albeit in a different way), but don't hold a candle to the way Bioshock's atmosphere and story shake up your nerves and make you think about hard choices.

Point of story, go buy Bioshock for $35.

cliff notes:
"Continuing this morning's progress towards resolving Aspect Ratiogate 07 and DRMgate 07, BioShock creative director Ken Levine has informed Joystiq that the game's oft-criticized SecuROM copyright protection will eventually be removed."
