Which version should I get?

I have a 360 hooked up to an hd projector and a PC hooked up to a widescreen Sony FW900 display.

Specs:

Core 2 Duo E6750
2g DDR 800 Ram
X1950Xt 256mb
P35 Gigabyte MOBO

I'm just curious if my system is fast enough to run it as well as the 360 version with the same framerate. Spec wise, my system is faster then a 360. But the minimum requirements for the PC call for over twice as much ram as a 360 alone, leaving me to believe it isn't as optimized as well as it could have. I understand a mouse is better then a controller, I mostly ask from a performance perspective. Any benchmarks?

I believe the PC version doesn't support widescreen monitors, FWIW.

Both versions "support" widescreen monitors, just the FOV is incorrect on both when in widescreen.

got it? No protection or its just unknown. You do need a key and steam to activate, so there is your protection!

CC had bioshock and a CD I wanted on sale; so I just walked out of BB with them both for 50 + tax.

For those who were wondering about purchasing in store and using the key to unlock steams pre-load this worked for me with sin episodes. For some reason the retail copy I bought from gogamer for like $5 had errors upon install. So I just activated the key on steam and it immediatly gave me the option to download the full episode. Needless to say I was very please, Steam is definitly shaping up to be one of the best and easiest ways to manage games.

Really? That would be surprising to me with regard to the 360 version.

I swung by the CC in Roseville, MN at lunch and they were out of stock. I picked up a copy at full price at Target.

It's got SecureROM on it... POS went through the entire install, then says it need to download and install a "patch" which is the copy protection... Then gave me an error saying that I need to put the original disk in the drive, not a backup. Of course, the original WAS in drive, but I had a virtual drive, unused, created with Alcohol 120%. I tasked out, removed the virtual drive, and hit "retry" on the disk error. It then said it couldn't download the "patch" and aborted the entire install.

GRRRRRRRRR.

I reinstalled again with no problems, now that the virtual drive was nowhere to be found. That REALLY pisses me off. And they're gonna hear about it. I feel sorry for the devs. They don't deserve the wrath, but I hope the publisher goes GD bankrupt. Why use any lame copy prot that's gonna be cracked the day it's released.

I BOUGHT this GD game, and *I'M* the one that's punished... But, I'm preaching to choir, here. Thanks for letting me rant!

Yeah, really. I dont blame the companies for putting in copy-protection, unless it screws up my system if I dont have any overide type of SW on it. I am GLAD they are putting good copy-protection on PC games. This way we may still be getting games for the PC and not consoles only. I cannot play any FPS on any console. I need my KB and trackball.

What 'good copy-protection' you talking about?

The copy protection on this game sucks. It requires a net connection for both a install, AND a uninstall. If your net connection goes out/don't have one, then your SOL until you get one. It uses a hash to tie the game onto your machine. You can install it on 2 machines. If you try a 3rd, then your SOL.
If your HD crashes or you reinstall the OS, then since you didn't /couldn't uninstall, your SOL.

As was mentioned, the only people who this copy protection was made for is the people who BOUGHT it. The pirates are laughing their heads off since they have no limitations at all.

It is bad that the devs will get blamed for this fiasco, when it is 2k's fault for picking this crappy protection.

That is odd, I grabbed my copy yesterday at BB (HOORAYY PRICEMATCH) and ripped it using Alcohol 52%. It installed and played fine.

360 version maybe, the PC version still isn't available through the warez channels, which means a few people probably laid down $40-$50 because they didn't want to wait for it to be cracked.

We can confirm an infection of Sony's SecuROM DRM then. The 360 version might be a better move if you do not want that POS on your system, a guy in the Bioshock thread over in PC gaming says the STEAM version is even infected... I guess they figured Steam's industry leading DRM was not enough and they wanted SecuROM Online as well?

I will have to find another source to confirm if the STEAM version has SecuROM in addition to the STEAM DRM (which is quite nice by the way).

Update: SecuROM infects the STEAM version as well!

By the way, we have a SecuROM thread going in PC Gaming

Please think before you write. DefDC is right -- he purchased the game and is treated as a thief. Yes, the company has the right to protect its intellectual property, but it doesn't have the right to cripple or sabotage other software on my computer by design.

Music industry is starting to understand the concept of not punishing the paying customer -- there is more and more DRM-less music being released. It certainly doesn't mean that piracy doesn't exist anymore.

Many years ago there was some study done that revealed that Hong Kong and China were the worst offenders when it comes to piracy. There was an interview with one of the vice presidents at Microsoft about piracy in China, and why isn't Microsoft doing more to stop it. He acknowledged that Microsoft is losing huge amount of money because of piracy in that area, but he also added: "If people in China must pirate software, we prefer it to be Microsoft's software."

(I am not condoning this behavior BUT...) A friend of min said he was able to get the PC version via shady means but it is supposedly still downloading...

The problem with copy protection is it doesn't stop piracy at all. Any good popular software title will get cracked, it will just take longer. So all that these anti-piracy programs and rootkits are doing is pissing off and messing up the computers of people that want to support the developers. I will even go as far and say that this type of copy protection is actually encouraging piracy. Why should you support a developer who "treats you like a criminal" and installs this crap on your pc that messes up your computer; when you can wait a few days and get a pirated version that has all of this drm, securom, rootkit crap taken out of it?

Piracy will never go away; it's simple human nature and that will never change..period Developers need to learn this and realize that adding copy protection just pisses off their customers and pushes them towards piracy. If biohazzard had been released at $30-40 without all of this copy protection crap I can gurantee their revenue would have been MUCH higher.

We got to stand up to the man and not buy their DRM-infected software, even if it is a good game.

Come on people, wait for Unreal Tourny or Crysis and let 2K feel the heat.

Don't buy Bioshock.
