What is he going to do nurse them back to health? I don't think human interaction is going to change the course of things one damn bit in this case.

It might. It's certainly worth the effort to try. I'd warm them up, and give them some sugar water for a start.

Probably not but, playing the odds when talking about life, just plain sucks. I'm no bleeding heart, I don't really care if the birds live or die. What's wrong with trying to warm them up and calling the local SPCA? It might be worth the 5 minutes that takes. I've always believed humans were expected to practice animal husbandry as the cost of animals supporting us.

GIC damage from an event like that would be cataclysmic.

Well, we'd survive, just... everything we know would be no more.

There would be a handful* of deaths between the event and however long it takes for transformers to be manufactured and installed as replacements for all the destroyed ones. And of course, everything else that gets all messed up from the storm.

I don't pretend to know a great deal about the potential damage, just what I've briefly researched out of curiosity.
There have been financial estimates, I think specifically just for the U.S. Oddly enough, last I checked it was only about 1/10th of the current U.S. debt/deficit. Though, that makes it seem much smaller than the $1,000,000,000,000+ in damages the estimate stated.
The zeros help convey the "holy shit that's a lot" image.

*a gross understatement

Awww. I used to take care of baby birds that had fallen out of the nest. I don't know what type of birds they are, and I also wonder where you are in the world, because I don't think any type of birds would be having babies this time of the year in the US.

Take them inside, put them in a box or tub with towels and keep them warm. Do you have a syringe or eye dropper? Try and give them water. Without knowing what kind of birds they are, it's difficult to determine what they should eat.. Hmm.

Something generic.. protein, sugar, liquid.. Maybe some watered down peanutbutter?

I'd give it a try.

I took about twenty birds in like that. None of the made it past a day. I gave up after that.

They're currently in a box in my garage. I have some dog food soaking and will will try to feed them that when it's soft.

For those that asked, I'm in Colorado.

Edit: Just read that you did the right thing and are trying to help the little birdies.

Good on you!

Any better pictures, perhaps?
Someone might be able to identify them.

Best of luck man. Like a poster above, I'm 0 for about 10 now. Birds live on such a fine line, no margin, no excess fat.

That's a good idea. It is going to be difficult to feed them, though. When I would feed baby birds, I would load up the warm, mushy food into a syringe and essentially force feed them. After feeding a few times, they would start to get the idea and open their mouths when they saw the syringe. It was cute.

They definitely need warmth. Even a 100W lightbulb pointed at them would help.

Colorado? Wow... I wonder what kind of birds they are? They almost look like ducks or geese. They're pretty big. Way out of season though.. How strange.

*shrug* Things die, and there's not much you can do to stop it. Try not to worry about it.

Try several different kinds of food on them (meat, crackers, etc)

If they don't eat, you should put them out of their misery quickly. It may be hard, but you'll be doing them a favor.

Well, they made it through the night (good God to they go to the bathroom a lot). It's still fairly warm outside, so I put them back where I found them. When I set one down, he ran off under a different tree. With a little prodding I was able to get the other one to follow him.

I think they have some kind of plumage disease. The tips of one bird's feathers on his wings are bare and both have bare, skeletal looking feathers around their necks.
