it's just the moral issue i suspect that has held you back (and that movement still exists here)...

Morning after pill killing people world wide.

Take at your own risk, but now you know so have no right to complain when you die, not like you could complain, but if you could, you knew about it.

clearly the Western Australian government considers it safe, as do all the other states in Australia iirc, and we're hardly alone

From the article and why I'll back up Dug on this one as it being safe.

In four cases in California, the women died from an infection of the bloodstream, or sepsis. Those women did not follow FDA-approved instructions for the pill-triggered abortion, which requires swallowing three tablets of one drug, followed by two of another two days later.

Instead of swallowing the final two tablets, the second course of pills was inserted vaginally in the four women, a so-called "off-label" use of the drug that studies show works and is widely recommended by abortion clinics but does not have federal approval.

There is a reason why drugs has labeled indications and uses, you take something off label you will suffer the consequences from time to time. Especially in a drug that is fvcking with your system like RU486 is.

to some degree, you're right. BC isn't 100% it's roughly 92-97 but BC and condom is damn near 99.9% also, on the BC itself, it advises you to do double protection cause BC doesn't help with STDs. in this case, i'd agree with rdubbz420

It has been said pretty well on this thread already, but i just wanted to inject my girl perspective:
I was on the pill for about 3 years. I hated it. It was effective, however, i often times forgot to take it and when i doubled up on the pills, i would get sick and throw them back up. It wouldn't even have a chance to get into my system.

I was so happy when the Patch came out. I have been using it for over 4 years and am VERY happy with it. I have lost weight from it, my skin is still clear from it, not a bad period, mood swings.. well, i am moody to begin with
Other than that, it is great beacuse i don't have to remember to take a pill every day.

But, with the BCP, if she takes it on time, everyday, she will be fine. use a condom for the first month she is on it so her body can become use to it before you stop with the condom.

Good luck.

To expand on wht someone else said. RU-486 is not the morning after pill known as "Plan B."
RU-486 which is not currently legal in the US terminates an implanted and devloping pregnancy by basically causing a miscarriage (which is medically termed a spontaneous abortion). Where as the morning after pill prevents the implantation of a fertilized ovum. It takes a few days after fertilization before it implants, hence the need to take it as soons as possible. It can still work with decreasing efficacy I believe for up to 72 hours after unplanned intercourse.

As far as failure of birth control. Talk to the doctor prescribing the medication about their experience and failure rates of different contraceptives. I would prefer to talk to her OB/GYN if possible who tend to handle BC more often, but the family doc is acceptable. Real world useage has a much higher rater of failure than the carefully controlled studies show. From personal experience my wife was on oral birth control 10 months ago and my daughter will be four weeks old as of tomorrow.

I've never had an issue with it, but I've heard of plenty of women getting pregnant while on it.

We were trying to delay having kids but, we have been married almost four years now. Its just not something we planned is all. OTOH she was depo-provera (injection every 90 days) for a while and that did work great.

My wife was on the pill (and had been taking it for almost 10 years) when she got pregnant with our first child. It happens.

It's supposed to be greater than 99% probability of working. This probability includes misuse. When the woman takes it correctly, the drug has a near-zero failure rate. She needs to make sure to take it every day around the same time and she can't take any medications that interfere with it (some antibiotics can do that).

If she takes it correctly, it will work. Wait at LEAST one month before you stop wearing a rubber.

the girls i know that have gotten preggers while on the pill were taking antibiotics at the same time (which they warn you about when you get anti-biotics).

as far as grapefruits, its not on birthcontrol pamphlets but it is on some anti-anxiety and anti-depressants so if it was a big risk for birth control, it would be there too

Review my earlier post on page 5, near the bottom concerning grapefruit juice and BC pills, it DOES affect but not in the serious mannerisms as some other drugs

And I bet it was some failure on her part that it happened.

And you can also consider that every woman can forget it sometime or another. We're talking about women... it happens.

The only safe sex is no sex. period.
If you dont want any kids running around, then keep the snake in its cage before it comes back to bite you.

Jesus Monkey Christ. Pulling out is not an effective method to prevent pregnancy. If you are still going to have sex, BC + condom is the best option you can go by. As long as your girl is 100% with taking her pills, you have nothing to worry about.

I don't disagree. I'm just trying to say it's not the pills' fault.

My wife's forgotten before. The 28 days after were horrible. The difference is if I said she got pregnant, I wouldn't have said she got pregnant while on the pill.

What's the chance of the girl getting preggers if you ball her near her period(like two days before its expected), and do pull out? I'd imagine it's pretty much impossible for her to conceive, considering a girl is only fertile ONE SINGLE DAY the second week after the period.

Its pretty much that simple, the pill is very close to 100% if you take it as intended.
