And in the respectful mutual argument, we were both somewhat amazed to discovered we both had the exact same end goals, with the main differences being how to achieve those end goals.

A relatively smart person will always come to that conclusion. An idiot thinks the other party is out to ruin the country.

I'm a Repub and I just don't understand why this is an issue. Even if Obama was born overseas, with his mother being a US citizen, doesn't this automatically make Obama a US citizen?

Does Obama not meet the following criteria?
For persons born between December 24, 1952 and November 14, 1986, a person is a U.S. citizen if all the following are true (except if born out-of-wedlock).
1. The person's parents were married at the time of birth.
2. One of the person's parents was a U.S. citizen when the person was born.
3. The citizen parent lived at least ten years in the U.S. before the child's birth.
4. A minimum of 5 of these 10 years in the U.S. were after the citizen parent's 14th birthday.

Hmmm, I don't think the requirement of #4 was met unless I am misreading it. Stanley was 18 at the time of his birth.

1) Stanley and Barack were married.
2) Stanley was a citizen.
3) Stanley was 18 and AFAIK, had not left the country at all let alone for 8 or more years.
4) Stanley would have had to be 19 at the time of his birth for this requirement to be met.

It's been a long day and maybe I'm just not reading it right.

While that might technically have been true at the time, it's the worst imaginable kind of rules lawyering. It's an example of a good intention having unintentionally bad consequences. Regardless, once Obama became the first serious major party black contender, it became a moot point. Were the Republicans to disqualify such a candidate on a technicality, they would lose far too many votes. The ends seldom justifies the means.
