It was an Acura (made by Honda) and yeah some of my friends modded the shit out of them.

Anyways, stop being such a melodramatic piece of shit, I know people who came out of far worse situations than you and many of them are far more successful than I am.

So, you know you need to change, the question is next week will you post another one of these stupid threads? OR will you change and start making progress.

Those people who came out of far worse situations almost definitely had better like coping skills and or didn't have any real mental problems. Going from the slums in Calcutta to a successful doctor in the West (or any story like that) takes a lot of drive and determination. These would be people who started with nothing, far less than I have, that's 100% true. However they definitely had something that I don't which is drive and motivation. Heck most people who stay in the slums of Calcutta don't necessarily have depression or are emotionally badly off. Where you are from and what you have are separate from your emotional health.

Bit of an emotional wreck? Call the emotional tow truck!
Uhoh, better call the whambulance instead.

Seriously though, I know what Locut0s is going through. I've been there. It's not a pleasant place to be. The best thing to do is get out there and find real people to talk to. Not co-workers, or a therapist. Find a hobby.

Struggle breeds the competitive spirit necessary for success. Don't fault the op for missing a vital component of self-development.

Very true. However struggle tends to be more of a Darwinian natural selection mechanism separating the wheat from the chaff. Not all those who face life's struggles succeed, some just die. I'm not saying here that I have faced life's difficulties, I have not. But at the same time it's not necessarily why I am in the situation I'm in. There are plenty of coddled spoiled brats out there who end up having just as much determination and drive as those who have faced life's slings and arrows.

Thanks. You can't live on a hobby though. I have plenty of hobbies that I'm serious about and enjoy. Amateur photography, computers, gaming, reading, writing, science. Any one of these could be turned into a successful career. It's at the intersection of real life and these interests where everything goes to shit though.

Im not sure what's eating Gilbert Grape but alcohol is not the answer. I quit back in 2008 and have never looked back. Prayer helps me. That and going bike riding as I notice how nice it is outside.

Finally, having someone or something to focus on can sure take you to another place altogether. I like to provide support to people who have very little or none at all (not in a major way, but in minor cumalative ways). It could turn into love eventually - it has for me.

Yeah trying to stay away from the bottle. It's certainly tempting fruit but I know no answers are to be found there. Whether I'll be successful is another mater.

University seems to be one of the things that makes me go to pieces a lot of the time (and this time again maybe). Don't really like the idea of working shitty retail jobs the rest of my life but that may be what's in store.

Take 80% or even 60% of a full course load during the year, and then take 2-4 courses in the summer to keep on schedule. You still get two or three months off a year, and you should be able to keep working at a job during the summer.

I think the hobby suggestion is a good idea. It doesn't have to be knitting, or anything like that, but should be goal oriented. Find a (physical)deficiency in your life, and fix it. Learn to code, and submit features to an open source project. Do leather, or metal work. You can make primitive jewelry and sell it on the street. Make a mountain dulcimer, and learn how to play. You can make some beer money playing in the city... Lots of stuff you can do, and some of them will get you out meeting people.

LOL I'm taking 2 courses right now. Count them 2. Only 2 days in. Work load has nothing to do with it. If I could take 60% I could take 100%. In the past during times I've been OK and been doing school the work was never the issue.

Many of them are happier. They deserve a fuck load more but they aren't necessarily unhappy. I'm talking about those who are not starving of course. Happiness is a subject that has been rigorously studied. They have done many surveys that show that many people living in 3rd world slums are not horribly unhappy. And similarly that millionaires are not always doing the happy dance.

yes, but the point is, they're starving, poor, live and sleep in dirt, yet manage to be happier than the ave. first-worlder.

try this:

new diet
exercise

not as a get healthy.lose weight suggestion, but more change the routine suggestion.

increase your energy stores. refocus your mind. consistent activity helps.

Umm yes... wasn't this exactly my point? That possessions and your place in society and life don't have anything to do with whether you are happy. Sounds like you are repeating what I said.

Stop making excuses for yourself.

I know you like to complain about your social disorders and all this other stuff, guess what, I have them too (diagnosed with PTSD, neurological disorder and learning disorder).

You have two choices, use it as an excuse, or use it as motivation. You choose the former rather than the latter.

Love is a powerful drug and people use other substances as a substitute for it. Its the last part of life's puzzle if you ax me.

Go find someone on youtube with no subscribers. A lot of people put their hearts into their videos and not one damn is given. I give a damn and its rewarding. I comment, rate & subscribe just like everybody wants but not to the big names because they neither know nor care that you exist.

Trolls are legion on Youtube. Its refreshing to find someone who is different, really cares and wont betray you. But like I said, you have to know the limits.

Disorganized schizophrenia is actually worse than regular or paranoid schizophrenia. Usually people with disorganized schizophrenia can't even speak or carry out common everyday tasks like bathing and or feeding themselves.

"Worse" is a very relative term. Many can carry out ADLs, but they lack the ability to communicate. I've diagnosed a few, in fact, I'm of the opinion that SCPT is waaaaaaayyy over-diagnosed and in actuality is representing a large portion of SCDT.

yeah, but your argument doesn't dismiss the point of why people use that comparison.

the point: ask yourself why they are happy, and why you are not.

Just kidding. Don't.

I know I'll probably get blasted for this, but seriously consider your faith, and maybe look at going to a local church or reading the Bible. Depressed people are sometimes in need of something extra in their lives, but they don't know what it is. See if there is a Christian church/chapel in your area and check it out. Avoid the big cults and all that... find a non structured church if you can, they are usually more inviting and "basic". If you have any friends or coworkers that are Christian maybe talk to them. It's easier if you go with someone else, it wont feel as overwhelming.

God is not magical and wont magically get rid of all your depressions, but may help you find yourself. At the end, you have to want to seek him, nobody will or can force you. Church is not the ultimate answer, just a suggestion.

That aside, definitely try to find a hobby, something you can dedicate a lot of your free time to. Something that you can get an outcome out of. Maybe building models or programming apps for instance. You'll see the end result and be happy with what you ended up accomplishing.

Though for true depression, I think socializing is the #1 thing you need to force yourself to do. I know it's hard, I don't consider myself very social myself so I can relate, but you'll have to force yourself to try to make more friends and go out more. When anyone at work organizes an off work activity like going bowling or a movie night, force yourself to go. That will at least be a start.

If you're feeling down, just play the Benny Hill theme in your head. Works for me.
