Not to thread crap, I had major problems with this slowing down my PC on year two.
This was years ago so maybe it’s improved just be aware if slowdowns happen.

I had bitdefender on two PCs, each suffered slowdowns on year two at different times.
Everything else about it was great, unobtrusive didn’t bomb you with false alerts.
Pro Tip you’ll start getting messages to renew around 90 days before it expires. The longer you wait the cheaper the renew offer will become at least per my years ago experience.

While all antivirus programs slow down a PC a bit, some are definitely better than others.

Bitdefender, Norton, and Kaspersky (and few others) have all been reviewed to have the least impact on system performance compared to some of their counterparts. Even using Windows Defender can slow down the PC a bit.

I've only used Bitdefender's free antivirus program on a few PCs, and I didn't notice really any difference (compared to the PCs with Norton on them).

Agreed, the two slowdowns were very severe and happened on two different machines.
It was a long time ago so maybe that’s changed maybe ssd drives mitigate the problem.
To define slowdown it would take 5 minutes plus to start the machine and get to being able to start a web browser.
I will say when I used anti virus bitdefender was pretty good.
*conspiricy stuff* feels like AV companies do this on purpose to nudge you into buying a platinum or plus or enhanced upgrade edition.

I went for this deal and extended my current Bitdefender subscription. However, I'm not a fan of everything they do in their software and turn off a lot of it. I basically want any downloads scanned for viruses and that's it. I don't want my email scanned and I don't want my browsing sessions interrupted with warnings.

BTW in my experience McAfee is the biggest bucket of garbage you can put on your system. Worse than a virus.
