I heard of a coming price drop by Microsoft on the Xbox mentioned on the business channel CNBC 3 or 4 weeks ago, so this is probably it.

BB employees make me laugh...ones in my area. Took my logitech z560s in to exchange for same ones. CSR didnt know anything about them, so she called a 'comp' guy up to see if they still work. He really had no clue either, he pluged them in, and tried pluging them into a pc at the cs desk, but couldnt get sound...yet i knew they worked. He was extremely stupid...or didnt care...

I call BS. Not that a pricedrop isn't due to happen sooner or later. But that this is really CONFIRMED.

I don't think all 3 companies would be aware of eachothers pricedrops and especially have gamestop ready with signs already sent to stores advertising it. If anything, if this is true, I'd say its probably refurbs or somethin.

Remember, ALL THREE companies aren't turning a profit off selling consoles, just the accessories and games.

Especially Microsoft, its estimated they loose almost 60 dollars for every XBOX they sell, and thats at $200. Although they are releasing a new xbox revision that is presumably cheaper to manufacture, so in their case, they might be looking into a pricecut.

Nintendo can't afford to sell gamecubes for $50 bucks (100 - 50 dollar free game)

And Sony isn't struggling, to say the least, infact last I heard they were comfortable with sales figures and estimates of ps2 sales all through 2002.

I'm sure they're all well aware what the other ones are doing. Just because we don't know doesn't mean they don't know.

As for them not making enough money off them to drop the price, the ps2 has paid for itself numerous times over, no problem there, Sony IS making money on each one they sell, have been for awhile. Microsoft is still taking a loss on each console, though it is supposed to be far less than it was when it was launched. Not like it matters to a company with, what, around 7 billion dollars (last I heard) in un-used cash reserves. Then theres nintendo, who is widely believed to have been making money on the cube almost since the launch, and of course, it only gets better over time.

1) Lots of us already have these cards or better

2) That does nothing for the console specific games such as metroid prime, animal crossing and zelda to name a few


Anyone know if target has a pricematch policy (not for other stores, but if their price drops within 30 days or so) ? I picked up a GC there 2 days ago... If it drops, I'd love to get $50 bucks back and get another game. Then again, $170 for 3 games a console and 2 mem cards isnt bad either.

for those w/ Am EX gold, this might be a good gamble to try w/ the gc, since the purch has to be made by 5/1

it'd be sweet if the price drop happens n i can pick up the ps2 for $150, but even at that price, i think it's a rip off. gotta remember that colsole's pretty old... as for xbox and cube, they go in expecting to lose money on the consoles, (xbox more than nintendo) and make up the diff on the software, it's just that ps2 just dominates the software market and consumers are willing to pay the same price for a lesser system, just because they have better games.

i held out on jumping on the ps2 bandwagon for near 3 years, what's another month or two?

GBA SP and cube are in different markets, there's no reason for big N to drop the price on the GB for the same reason sony hasn't lowered their price, nor bundled any games w/ the ps2 despite the competitor's efforts. so what if GBA SP and the cube are the same price? if you wanna save money go w/ the older GBA, when you are the only game in town, there's not much need to cater to consumers. i say maybe x-mas time before the price on SP drops.

It is believed that Nintendo still makes profit off of thier hardware sales alone still. At worst, people acknowledge that they are breaking even. Nintendo makes the vast majority of thier money off of software sales and they bring in the most profit out of all the companies.

Look, we all know the price drop is going to happen sooner or later. Hell anyone can say its going to happen in March as thats when E3 happens, and everyone knows that it'll probably happen around then. And then anyone can say "Look! I was right! Told you!".

I still say this is no more than speculation that anyone can spew out.

There has been lots of false speculation as far as this is concerned but when the first price drops happened it was known for a month of so before E3. I purchased my gamecube at best buy with 10% off the day it went down. Cheers to all of us informed consumers.:beer:

I asked the department manager in electronics at our store today if she had heard anything about any price drops coming soon. She wouldn't say who she heard it from, but quoted the same prices as in the orignal posting and added the original PS1 is supposedly going to $39. Not that this makes it "confirmed" or anything, but just adding it to the rumor mill...

Good job! You'd have an awesome video card. Now throw in the 30 bucks you'd spend on a game, and a spare 500-1000 dollars and you could have the whole computer!



It may just be me, but I think people are looking at this thread because they want the consoles, not a video card that some might not even have a use for.

heh, yea, i got a gf2 ti4200 in my game box and a radeon 8500 in my main box, don't play games on either...infact, a geforce2mx and rage128 would adequately replace both if i cared to sell them.
