BLAAAZING HOT !!! Xbox and PS2 $149.99, Gamecube $99.99 price drops confirmed

This has been unofficially confirmed. Yesterday morning on the local radio station the DJs were talking to the Editor of one of the big gaming magazines and he unofficially confirmed these new prices, and he also mentioned that the manufacturers won't announce it because they don't want to hurt current sales any because most people will wait (if they don't know about PM i guess).

if so, whats the price guarantee policy for eb or gamestop?

That GameCube price at Zany Brainy is a clearance price. They (and FAO Schwartz) were clearing out their stock of GCs months ago, there are several threads on it here and at FW. They must have found some more in a warehouse or something.

Zanybrainy's site is broken too, so you can't order it. I'm going to wait because I'm hoping the $99 price drop will be for the package that contains the free game. The ZB one doesn't have anything bundled with it.

That bundle was a limited edition. I believe it is discontinued. Stores are getting sent the regular xbox package which is just the xbox package and xbox S controller. But if you find a store that still has the LE in stock, it should qualify for the price cut if it happens.

I want to get a Gamecube before the price drop for Metroid Price and PM. But, does anyone know if the price drop is going to apply to the Platinum Gamecubes, or just the Indigo and Black Gamecubes?

I dun understand how something could be confirmed, when everyone's reporting unconfirmed information? it'll be hot once they announce the actual price drop, but i'm not gonna lose any sleep over potential $50 savings until it actually materializes, then i'll walk into the store and finally pick up the PS2. (i waited this long, what's another 2 weeks? )

btw i did not understand the rebate comment above at all. ????

Even that story isn't confirmed. It's suggested by "analysists and marketers". I guess we'll wait and see. No hurry here. I need a Gamecube by June 3rd, and I'm willing till June 2nd to get it

for those who want the systems now with the hopes that the price will drop soon (but do not care either way) the best thing is to buy it at circuit city. they offer 110% pricematch guarantee up to 30 days from date of purchase. so if you get a xbox or ps2 now and the price drops after e3 (or within the next month) you will get back $55. just an idea.

Actually, I would be a little wary of that right now. Last night on the CC website I noticed the GC was listed as clearance, although the price was still the same at $149.99. It is entirely possible that CC and others may put all the consoles on clearance but leave the price the same, in order to avoid the PM due to the price drop, if it occurs. I think a lot of them might have gotten burned last year, so they are just trying to save their bottom line. I will probably wait for a confirmed price drop, then buy, just to be safe. Not worth the $5 savings on a PM.

Yeah, nobody actually confirmed anything, it was all a rumor. People get a little too excited

Anyway, EB and TRU lowered the price of the PS2 to $179, but there's a reason:

SONY is adding a network adapter (and the rumored ability to play CDRW's...again with the rumors ) to an upgrade of the PS2 due out within the next couple of months. THAT'S why they're selling the current systems for $179...they may even get cheaper. Check it out:

Starting in June, Sony will sell a revamped system that will be bundled with its popular online adaptor starting in June. The upgraded PS2 will continue to sell for $199.

The upgraded machine will also offer the ability to play re-writable DVDs and will offer progressive scan technology, which will improve the visual quality of movies watched on the console. The machine will also be quieter than current models.

So now the question is, do they continue to offer the old PS2 at $179, then have it's $199 counterpart next to it, or will the new ones also be offered at the current price of $179? The blurb above says it'll continue to sell at $199. Well, it's $179 now.
