To be fair, myself about about 8 of my all white friends (brunch crowd is smaller in San Antonio) do say a lot of racist shit every Sunday after a few mimosas.

Statements like this are ridiculous. So because some black people do stupid things, that makes all black people look bad? Do you hold the same standards for groups of Asians representing all Asians, or some whites being representative of all whites, etc?

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that by "own people" he meant members of their cause rather than members of their race.

If he did mean all black people then you're quite correct.

I wasn't responding for what the protesters were doing (which I still pointed out was kind of a stupid gesture in my book). I was responding to constant brush painting that people are doing.

Armed people are going into places where there happen to be unarmed people, and complaining that armed people are getting their rights infringed by unarmed people OTHER THAN THE UNARMED PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE SHOP. What do you want those shop patrons to do? Represent all unarmed people? Apologize for those other unarmed people?
