Hail to another Blacksburgian! I was wondering why when I got to Target in C'burg all the good deals were already gone

You're suppose to charge the NiCd for 6 hours before us. I think the original price for the Versapak was like $40-50.

The cordless tool kit was regularly $49.96. From what I've observed, Target does markdowns in 25% increments. If you wait long enough, you can score a 75% off deal provided the item doesn't sell out first. This strategy obviously doesn't work well for popular products.

Gonna' keep my eyes peeled for the $13 price, grab 2 more, and then get a refund on the original purchase...

According to the manual (did you read it?) it said it's alright to leave the batteries in the charger continously.

thanks for the post, i found one at my local Target (Chicago, IL - fullerton) and got the last one. Like everyone else said, it's not a heavy-duty kit, but for the small projects and occassional use I need it for, it is perfect. BTW, it was $50 regularly. Mine said $34.98 on the reduced price tag, but it rang up at $24.98.

I've had some on constant charge for a couple of years now. It will most likely shorten the battery life, but it's nice to have them ready when you need them.

RagingBITCH - Yes I did read it, and it does NOT say that it is alright to leave the batteries in the charger continously as you report. It DOES say "continuous charging is not a safety concern." You may want to re-read. However, the Black and Decker website does support what you say:

"There are two types of VersaPak® batteries: the Silver VersaPak battery (VP100), and the Gold VersaPak battery (VP110). The Silver VersaPak battery is a Nickel Cadmium battery and is the standard VersaPak battery. The Gold VersaPak battery is a Nickel Metal Hydride battery and averages a 60% longer run time.

For charger models VP130 and VP131:
The Silver VersaPak battery requires only 6 hours to charge initially and 3 to 6 hours to recharge. The Gold VersaPak battery should be charged 9 hours initially and will take anywhere from 6 to 9 hours to recharge. Additionally, you can leave both types of batteries in the charger indefinitely without harming your batteries."

I just wanted to make sure that leaving these batteries in the charger a day or two wouldn't be harmful with that cheap charger supplied with this kit.

Just stopped at the West Hartford CT Target, and they still have 2 more of these at $12.48 and it comes with a pack of bits, that they sell seperately for $10, if you were to buy 2 versa pack batteries it will cost you nearly $20, do the math, its a good deal hehe, i may buy a second set just for the batteries if no one grabs these

Stores inc hicagoland are $24. I picked up one, and there were 4 more left at my local target. If they go to $13 I will go back and buy all they got

For all those in CT. The Waterford store had about 10 of them today. They were on an end cap, but not marked with a clearance tag. Rang up for $24.98!!!

opinions on the stanley toolset?

The 111 piece Mechanics tool set, being sold for $14.98? (75% off)

Worth it, if you don't already have pliers, open end wrenches, torx bits, etc.

The socket set is fairly good too, but I prefer a quick release ratchet handle.

The screwdrivers are excellent though, they're very comfortable to use.

Well folks, the B & D tools went 75% off today.

14.4 vt drill w/60 pc accessory kit - 12.48
Versapak kit is also 12.48
100 pc drill bit set - 4.98
Bullseye Laser level - 17.48

The Stanley tool kit previous mentioned went down last week - 14.98. There's still a ton of these out there that aren't marked. The Stanley staple gun finally dropped to 4.98 too.

Got the 7v set for $24.98 at the local Super Target. They had not marked it down to $14.98 yet. Still a good deal. I got the last one there.

Seems like us in Minnesota (home of Target) are the last to get the markdowns on these items...

Picked up a 14.4 drill for $12.48, the 3 tool kit for $12.48, and the Stanley mechanics 111 piece tool set for $14.98 today... I won't need any more tools for a while.

There were several of the 14.4 drills and the 3 packs at the Target in Brandon, FL. There were 3 of each left in the Lakeland, FL Target and also 10 or so of the 111 piece tool sets in the Lakeland store.

Good luck to anyone heading out for these...

The 111 piece tool kit is actually a really hot deal. These are good quality tools. Not pro quality tools (Snap-On, Mac), typically not as good as Craftsman, but still good home-user quality tools. WAY better quality than those you find in those off-brand "999 tools for $19.99" kits that consist of 7 tools and 992 fasteners.

Note that the 111 tools include NO fasteners! All actual tools and bits...

It's always convenient to have a few tool kits around the house so you don't have to lug your good tools around for minor jobs. At $14, these are just the sets...
