Let's put it this way, they are people that couldn't cut it at the Inq.

Or in other words, one level below ass-clown.

that chip we told you could not go past 2.3ghz because of the TLB bug? and had problems at that speed? yea that one, want to get it with unlocked muliplier and try to see if you can get it past 2.3 despite us not being able to?

Makes perfect sense... REALLY!

Also if AMD would have solved the TLB bug already there would be much fanfare and press info and immediate resumption of sales... although they CLAIM that this time they are gonna do a VERY rigorous testing scheme to make sure there are no more such problems (in fear of getting their reputation permanent tarnished... further...)

Also, not only is fudzilla the guys who couldn't cut it in the inquirer (their very name, fudzilla is a pun about having non verified rumors and speculation...), but this blurb is written by faud... and I have heard mention of him several times, every one of those was about him making completely BS statements that are not even remotely logical and then never coming to fruition. So he is agreed to be the LEAST reliable source on fudzilla... Probably known as the least reliable source anywhere, period.

Oh yea... and the black edition brisbane 5000+ is the ONLY black edition to have unlocked multipliers... As I discovered with the 6400+ windsor, other black editions merely mean that it is "so fast that to run at stock speeds you need a really good after market fan, so it doesnt COME with a fan"... In fact that piece of shit was unstably running (or rather, CRASHING on) 44c idle 57c load on a zalman 9500 coolder, a monster heatsink that keeps the C2D at under 35c load...

You had a bad chip. I've seen an X2 3800+ (939) run at up to 83C core temps, and still be stable.

I don't believe Phenom buyers should worry about the TLB errata, except for users of Photoshop and virtualization. For all the hue and cry, I'm not aware of a single hardware site that has come close to fully isolating, exploiting, or documenting the bug.

Unfortunately, BIOS support on the AM2/AM2+ is lacking a true coordinated effort, and further limiting any Phenom potential. I would personally place everything back in the oven, and wait for the B3 stepping, a Black Edition notwithstanding.

Think they will have to change the Phenom name when they fix it? Many industries that have newly introduced products that are poorly received and quickly develop bad names, when the product is fixed/improved they usually change the name to rid of the bad history.

Shame cause Phenom is a great marketing name. Don't you think?

When Shanghai comes out it would still be Phenom right? But when Bulldozer and Fusion come out (which hopefully will be winners) It would have to be a new name because it is a new core design correct?

I actually don't care much for the Phenom name brand so I won't cry if they change it.

But then again I seem to always prefer the codenames (hammer, sledgehammer, thunderbird, etc) over the final product brand names picked by the drunks in the marketing dept.

Comes from being an enthusiast I guess, my history with most these products starts with them as codenames for a year or two, then somebody up and changes the name (usually to something silly or stupid - sempron anyone?). Yawn.

it actually comes from not being a brain dead chimp.... I totally agree with you there...

Marketing was always REALLY REALLY BAD at choosing names... they are always trying too hard to justify their jobs... eXtreme marketing? the white, black, and asian with one being a woman trio to show how their product can appeal to ANYONE? using a laptop with one hand while laying down with one knee raised (as if none of their customers ever saw a laptop)? In fact... usually marketing acts as if none of their customers have ever seen a similar product and are idiots and ignorant...

Is there any chance that FSB overclocking has hindered the current Phenoms?

I don't trust Fuad as far as I could (virtually) throw him. His use of the English language is humourous, though.
