I was walking in the wintry cold through grass because the stupid area where I go to college has no sidewalks. Anyway, stumbling along, I saw a sign...it was ALDI's! I was pretty excited until I walked over there and realized there was just a sign, and what seemed like a run down store....and on the other side was a CLOSED Kids R Us =( so I guess Aldi might be moving in but not for another while *sigh*...

You are kidding? Right?

Would anyone seriously decide against a computer because it doesn't have a floppy? I don't have a floppy.

If that computer were like 400 bucks i would buy it, but I just don't have that kind of capital to throw like $1k at it or something. .

The point is, this is a great deal, and honestly/seriously you no longer need a floppy drive. Nice to see a manufacturer getting away from it.

I like the way this computer looks on the outside.
The store should not pre-view their product without a stated price.
:disgust: The quarter for the shopping cart is disqusting.
:Q The store isn't all that great, in fact I don't like the store's size, location and product lineup.
I am totally confused over their whole price/product marketing.

On top of all that, they tore down a perfectly good "Tony's" style restuarant that my family liked to eat at to build one of these puzzling stores. No more great greasy fish and chips or steak sandwiches, due to Albi's wanting a presence in our area.

Bad is my vote for the whole thing.

a floppy fits in my pocket better than a cd (and doesn't scratch as easily). website uses vector graphics, so it fits rather nicely. thanks for noticing that

A floppy fits in a pocket very nicely indeed however 50 floppies do not. I suppose it all depends on how much data storage one needs.

I personally hate floppies. The disks seem very unreliable to me. Maybe it is just because I abuse them, but i dunno.

floppies are still the easiest (sometimes only) way to flash your bios or firmware. i have 1 floppy drive i pass around between my 3 comps. it's quite a whore.

Jeez, I pointed out the floppy thing because I thought it was interesting and nobody else had mentioned it, not because it was necessarily a good or a bad thing (hence the positive or negative comment). I can't thing of a major pc mass-market pc manufacturer who offers a floppyless pc.

I can't believe I got guff over that. On my first post on AnandTech. Tough crowd

$899? I think thats an outstanding price for quality components from a quality manufacturer!

If I was 'in the market' for one I'd do it, although its not quite cheap enough to 'put me in the market' for it tho.

Dervos,

Actually they were pretty easy on you!! Start posting in OT and you will get to see the "true" nature of a lot of AT'ers. I posted a message about high gas prices and had 25 people post that I should shut up and quit whining and move to a different country!!! Still trying to figure that out!!!!

Anyhow.........Welcome!!!

Hey, nothing personal dude. Welcome to the forums, I'm pretty new here myself. I was just picturing people being like "oh no, it doesn't have a floppy" and then not buying it. I think I'd slap someone in the face if they did that.

OK, I get the quarter thing relating to the cart.
They loan it out to you for a quarter.
You give it back to them using your labor, which they pay you 25 cents for.

If this computer is $899, then God help us all.
You might as well say $900 plus tax, which in my state brings it to $953 total.

:Q $953 and no monitor!

I purchased 2 great computers from Dell for $200 and $300 respectively.
That included shipping and tax. One came with a 3 year warranty.

Seems to be priced right for some people, but not for me.
I know, better components, but $650 to $750 in better components.
I don't think so.

Show us the computers you got (specs) and we'll tell you why this one is better.

I'm guessing yours will be outdated and upgraded to the max in 2 years while this one will still be running strong. That's just a guess, but I've worked with MANY MANY Dell systems on the job... They aren't bad or anything, but a $200 comp is going to be extremely limited.

Heh... no GF5. It looks like it's the GF FX now.

How pathetic. I hope it wasnt one of us on here that did it.

I thought you weren't supposed to be able to auction anything on ebay you didnt already have in your posession.

I saw both of those auctions last night too... agreed, pathetic. My guess is he's stealing them from some stores stock at worst and at best will buy a few on BF and auction them off on ebay.

I stopped in the St. Charles IL location of Aldi and was told they have none of these in the back. I could see why - the store was timy and it was a total hole! St. Charles is a really affluent community (too bad I don't get to take advantage of any of that affluent schtuff!) and I am surprised a place this cruddy is allowed to exist there.

Don't get me wrong, I also spend time in the Goodwill store and Value City, but they never get this nasty!

Anyone in the Chicagoland find a store with these in stock please post so I have a crack at one!

Peace!!!!

it's a chain based outside of the united states (germany?). and diversifying can hurt a business, but sometimes it can help it also

A mini-cdrw, with a thin-flexible plastic case, fits in my pocket and hold a lot more.

Uhmmm, didn't bother to read all 4 pages - would take too long...

IMO this is not a hot deal, Microcenter offers PC with similar specs for 810 - add $100 for a 17Inch monitor and you'll get the same price as ALDI's...

Now, what was hot, was that laptop equipped with 2.0Ghz P4, 512Mb ram, and 15" screen for only $1500 six months ago... that was truly hot...

Also, did anyone notice that MEDION advertises its PC being equipped with 120Gb Seagate drive? Well, the problem is that Seagate does not make 120Gb IDE drives yet... And frankly nobody knows when they will become available... smells fishy...
