Do any of you remember these? CD ROM, 28.8k modem...etc.

http://guff.com/what-black-friday-looked-like-in-1996/

LOL. I remember standing in line to get a CD Burner one year. Stood there from 4:00am to 6:00am (opening) and the damn store (Best Buy) opened the OUT doors first so all of the people that were in the parking lot ran into the out door while the people who were standing in line were trapped behind the railings.

I haven't been back to a BF since then.

Edit: Wow, $149 for a CD-ROM drive. I was too poor then to buy even that stuff, lol.

I think I bought an N64 in '01 or '02 from Circuit City. Can't remember for sure. Came with a free Start Wars Racing game and an extra controller.

Awesome to see that old stuff.

Interestingly some of the stuff was actually way cheaper than now like the cell phones and game consoles.

But then there's the hard drive. Over 200 bucks for a bit over 1GB LOL. They make Micro SD cards much bigger and cheaper than that. Incredible how things have advanced in 20ish years.

That's because cellphone plans were sold by the minute so we ended up paying more and games for the consoles were much more expensive back then.

I remember feeling guilt for spending $400 on a DVD burner back in '98. That was about 80% of my net worth back then.

My first pc had a 1.2 gig hard drive. I bought it around New Year's 1996 for $2048

I think I had Sanyo and Aiwa walkmans back then. Sony was too rich for my college-student blood. Koss was junk. Aiwa too.

And now we have people who bitch and moan all over the place when they pay $8 for a game on Steam and it's not OMFG amazing perfect bugless GOTY!

I remember my parents buying me a Packard Bell from Best Buy in 1996. Everything (including monitor and printer) cost over $2000. God, what a colossal waste of money. Sorry mom and dad.

I bought my first HD, 20MB (yes, Megabyte) MFM Seagate for $379.99 in 1988. That's quite a leap in 8 years in both price, size and performance.

I have that exact same model of Macintosh. I think it's in the basement. Those were awesome machines.

My parents had a Motorola Starmax, which was one up from that with a 200mhz processor. In the basement somewhere. Still works AFAIK.

The price of video games has remained fairly stable over the years.

I literally used every single one of those products.

Even the dream cast, which I think I only ever saw one of.

Even the giga-pet thing. My little brother's friend had one. I thought it was funny to kill the pet when I babysat him.

Ah, the memories. Mario 64 was a revolutionary step in console gaming. I remember playing it for the first time with awe.

People seem to forget how expensive games were back then.

True, but hardware was also MUCH, MUCH cheaper, outside of bizarre outliers like the 3DO, Neo Geo and Saturn (which quickly dropped as well).

The N64 was selling for $150 just a year after its debut. Same with the PSX.
