Black lines on monitor

Recently I've had these faded black lines flickering horizontally on my screen. It's a Viewsonic A90f+ CRT and I am absolutely clueless about anything concerning monitors. All I know is that they're real annoying and I was wondering if there is anything that I could do to fix it or if I should just bite the bullet and call Viewsonic. I don't have a warranty on it but money isn't too much of a problem right now.

I have two of those monitors running dualled side by side, never had that problem. Call ViewSonic.

Do you have another CRT monitor sitting next to it? My A90f+ got some weird scrolling dark stripes on it when I had a second monitor nearby that was running at the same refresh rate because the CRTs were interfering with each other. Changing them to different refesh rates solved the problem.

No, I even thought it might be my speakers. Moved them, fiddled with refresh rate and nothing has changed.

A friend of mine had a Gateway CRT monitor that devoloped black streaks across it. I thought the monitor was bad, but Gateway sent another video card... and it fixed the steaks!

Try the monitor on another computer/video card and see...

It may be your video card / drivers.

Reason: My brother recently bought a ViewSonic VA720 LCD screen. I have the exact same one. We also have the exact same video card 4200Ti.
On his machine, there are occasional lines that move from bottom-to-top. Light gray ones. I thought it was his refresh rate. Nope didn't work. Updated his drivers, nope didn't work. His LCD was right next to a speaker, moved that, nope didn't work.

I thought that it might be a bad ViewSonic, but as soon as I hooked it up to my machine, it was perfectly fine.
My conclusion is that the monitor is in good condition, but something in my brothers system is creating those lines. Perhaps a reformat would help. Perhaps its the powersupply?

I recommend you try the monitor in another comp/video, like Mscrip mentioned and pinpoint the problem. The lines however died down for my brother, he doesn't see them all the time now and are very thin and faded. I'm still puzzled.

danny~!

Since the black lines have appeared I have upgraded just about everything(Motherboard/processor/video card/sound card/power supply) and still they stay. I think it has to be the monitor.

My machine:
MSI Neo Platinum
AMD 3200+
1 Gig Corsair XMS 3200
Western Digital 80 Gig
6800 GT
Thermaltake 480W PSU

Also calling Viewsonic did not help at all. All they tried to get me to do was check my resolution and refesh rate, plus the guy could barely speak english. I do not want to send it in considering it's my only monitor. I think I'm screwed.:frown:

I don't think it can be my video card considering the same thing was happening with my old 9600 Pro. I think it might not be getting enough power but I have it running straight to an outlet in the wall.
