no maybe change the focus from puting small time pot smokers in jail to busting all teh coke and meth coming into our country from mexico maybe?

No, how about cry about it on ATOT?

Sure, if it takes the same budget...would it?

Here's a starting point for thinking:

Which is more elastic: a drug user's demand for drugs or a drug shipper/dealer's supply of it?

Police arrested an estimated 786,545 persons for marijuana violations in 2005, The total is the highest ever recorded by the FBI, and comprised 42.6 percent of all drug arrests in the United States.

from http://www.drugsense.org/wodclock.htm

So I think close to doubling the budget for other drugs would help no?

Demand or supply?? I'm confused.

Do you mean possession vs. growing / sale?

Weed makes people stupid, lazy, unmotivated scatterbrains - kind of like John Kerry.

Just say no. Its the right thing to do.

Some people are destined to be stupid, lazy, unmotivated scatterbrains - weed doesn't factor into the equation. Yet, I don't see you being a proponent of abortion.

Pot should be legalized, and mental midgets like the judge should be removed from the bench

I don't know exactly how Vietnam vets will react to you asking for their life imprisonment.

What branch did you serve in, BTW?

That's just the thing though. If someone wants to be a "stupid, lazy, unmotivated scatterbrain", they have every right to be as long as they can at least contribute to society by holding a minimum wage job.. which any pothead can.

Just like, currently, if someone wants to be a stupid, lazy, unmotivated alcoholic, they have every right to be, as long as they are able to hold a blue collar job, which most alcoholics can.

The difference between those two drugs and, say, meth.. is that a meth addict wouldn't be able to hold a job.

There's a significant difference in disapproving of people's lifestyle choices and urging them to make different choices (i.e. "just say no"), and thinking that the force of government should be used against those people to lock them up for life because of their lifestyle choices.

Just say no to being a moral authoritarian busybody prick. It's the right thing to do.

Castration. with a spoon. No, spork. even better.

I think the worst that can happen to him is getting removed from the bench with a healthy pension.

It's funny how Alcohol isn't illegal when Pot is. I think in the long run Pot is a way better way to get high since
#1. Only kills brain cells
#2. Might possibly affect the respiratory system? (I don't think so though)

Small amounts of alcohol consumed on a daily basis prevent many nasty illnesses. Smoking pot everyday increases chances of lung cancer...

Vaporizers FTW!

Just breathing city air increases chance of lung cancer. Seems like everything causes cancer nowadays.

I read halfway thru that and got really, really pissed off.

It is very unfair to sentence one guy to life and then let the other off with reduced probation.

That is just wrong. But I am not so sure if it is about race, or just money and connections.

There's no reason for either of them to be illegal. The force of law is an ineffective way to deal with these issues, as no drug prohibition in and of itself has ever been successful in stopping (or even curbing) drug use.

Did anyone read the article? this isnt about the war on drugs. Its about unfair and unequal punishments for a crime.

under age Black commits armed robbery, gets 10 probation under the condition that if he violates probation with he will serve the sentence for the armed robbery. He violates probation with MJ and gets a life sentence

White man shoots and kills male prostitute in the back, gets 10 years probation. He violates probation by violating it with drug use (CRACK). White guy gets postcard probation- meaning he no longer takes drug tests, or meats with a Parole officer. all he has to do is send in a postcard to the courts to confirm his address.
