Black spot near the top of LCD TV

I'm having a bit of a problem here...I have a Memorex 32" 1080i LCD TV which is about 6 months old and I just noticed a dark black spot at the top of the picture. From what I can tell, they're not dead pixels because it fades to the actual picture around the edges. Nothing has been spilled in it nor has it been touched or bumped. Also, you can't tell in the picture, but just above the black spot is a little patch of "clear" area where you can see some of the picture. Sort of like a "U" shape. Any ideas what could of caused this, or better yet, how to fix it?

wtf? that is really odd man. have you tried calling the company and asking?

Could be excess or misplaced material between the LCD panel and the fresnel (glue, foam, etc.). You feel comfortable taking it apart?

No, I havn't called the company yet. I figured all they're going to tell me is to send it in.

CKent, that is what it looks like, honestly. How technical is it to fix something like that?

Actually if I'm right it would be light blockage, not dead pixels. I've never opened an LCD monitor though, so keep in mind I'm just guessing.

When I RMA'd one a few years back (Hyundai, dead backlight) I had to pay one way shipping, but they had it back to me in under 2 weeks and covered return shipping. Length of repair and shipping coverage varies by company & warranty, and some even charge RMA fees (Sapphire is known for this, for example). If it's not under warranty and/or if you feel adventurous you can open it up, if only to have a look. I probably would, but ymmv.
