Yes, unfortunately most rural parts of America I have seen are like that, especially in the Midwest and parts of upstate NY I have been to. They're brown-skinned, and a rarity where they live and would go to school. They got treated like shit by everyone, including other kids. Just like most other people treat their father. Didn't sound too different than where I grew up.
