Update---- 12/13/08--- I finally put the only male I had in with one of the 3 females (5 days ago) and I believe they mated. Not 100% sure though. Didn't have my magnifying glass handy :laugh: Seriously though, the male was right there with the female and she let him crawl all over her.
After two days in that cage, he strayed away from her lair entrance and started wandering around the top. I moved him to a second Widow cage when I noticed this. No chemistry with this Widow yet. He stays far away from her.


If you guys want new pics, let me know.

For crazy fun, you should milk the female. They carry surprisingly lots of venom for their size.

Has anyone actually put themselves in danger on ATOT before? Not going to do what you guys want, I know what it feels like about 1 hour later after a Widow bite............ It no feel nice!

They showed a zoologist get bitten by a black widow for shits and giggles. The guy just described the symptoms which were NOTHING major.

It wasn't even as bad as people ignorantly make it seem to be.

I wouldn't be frightened to get bitten than more than a bee sting.

You haven't been following my Black Widow Thread, have you?

I remember seeing a guy milk a spider on mythbusters - you knock'em out with CO2, hold it under a microscope with tweezers, and harvest the venom with a capillary tube. At least I think it was mythbusters. EDIT: Oh yeah I think you have to stimulate the venom glands with an electric pulse.

For those curious, I've been bitten by a Black Widow once. I was 17, about 6'1 and 185lbs -- I got a mild fever and lost my appetite for a day. I was fine when I woke up in the morning. Not really the end-all-be-all that people make them out to be.. unless your an infant or elderly.
