Blackhawk Down... do you feel the movie showed a strong pro-US bias?

I hate how they try and give these guys a "character " in these military movies. If it's not some insane evil brain dead SEAL in "the abyss" or in "black hawk Down" the disrespecful Delta Forces all with unique attitudes. In the military you are a team, on the same page with a chain of command, and all business when operations are occuring, with quite normal individuals.

Oh and re: Patriot not bad hitting like 15 guys in rapid succession at 100 yrds with a musket huh

WRT the movie showing a "strong pro-US bias", of course it would. The US was outmanned and outgunned. Yet the US troops inflicted over 500+ casualties (some numbers show it at 1000) while losing 18. These guys went in carrying only the gear necessary for a 1-2 hour fight and ended up fighting for close to 20 hours. They had no water, no night vision, little ammo, and little medical supplies. Yet they prevailed against the odds. How can a story like that not be pro-US? About how the US had greater skill and training, how the US soldiers never gave up, etc...

BTW, it appears that the book is available online. Go read it. Actually go buy it, but if you don't want to, read it online.

As for Black Hawk Down, I didn't think the movie was terribly pro-US. Personally, I thought it made us look weak. I mean, we kill almost 2,000 Somalis and only lose ~19 (don't flame me for not being able to recall the exact number right now, it's late) soldiers and we act like we're the ones who lost. I don't get it. Why are we such crybabies?

Is not about numbers but objectives. Their objective came forth and US back out! So US lost!
Osama has always point to this event as american are weak and have no stomach for war, that was osama miscaculation when 9/11 happen!

maybe! But if the director show every Somalis death as significant events, the movie would not be 3 hour. It would be days!

Actually, there was a news acticle saying alot of Somalis want US back, because their country is all fvck up now!

You expected it not to be? A lot of you guys seem to be missing the fact that is an American war story, it will have a US bias, that is the nature of it all. If your looking for a majority Somali viewpoint or bias, then fund one of the warlords over there to make their own film. Most hollywood films are made for an American audience first, international audience second. The fact that people are judging United States culture and values on the atrocious movies like Pearl Harbor and Armageddon doesn't say much for the intelligence of the international audience either. I have a good idea, why don't people just sit down and enjoy the movies and understand that if it's French made, it will have a French bias, Asian-made, Asian bias, Russian-made, Russian bias, etc. Get the drift? View the movie as entertainment and don't give yourselves heart attacks over some political weaving in the movies, nothing is ever neutral.

As to the Patriot movie comment, I thought the movie sucked personally, but how could you be pissed that there was a patriotic tone to the film? It's like being pissed off at Chocolate for having a chocolate flavor, it doesn't make any sense. The title should have set it straight from the get go, and in this case, the Patriot did just that. It was a patriotic film thus titled the Patriot

I wasn't missing anything. I was answering the original posts question w/o reading the entire thread first. Of course there was US bias...

Mel Gibson is American FYI. He was born in the US and moved to Australia. So an American did make a movie like

Only so much story telling you can do in 90-120 minutes.

EDIT: though I would still sit through a longer movie to see more story. Problem is, most people don't have the attention span to do it :/

Off-topic but... Does anyone know what the UN APC's were in the end of the movie? I'm asking because they look alot like finnish XA-200, but I know there are other APC's that look lik that as well.
