For a long-time cranky old man refusing to do sequels, Ford is now showing up in a lot of them, playing the old, tired, and cranky version of his former iconic self, training a new protege.

Not much seen in this, but it looks OK...possibly because that trailer doesn't show anything beyond the now all-too-familiar "Harrison Ford re-hashes a legendary character from his youth and looks really weird doing it" scene.

I hope it's good--BR is phenomenal--but going beyond the Dick story, I don't know (not that BR had all that much to do with the original story anyway....).
I'm 2/3 of the way through the Dick now, and I'm still surprised at how little they have to do with each other.
I've been pretty "meh" about the movie, but thoroughly enjoying the "source" material.

It's like they are two completely different pieces of material.

By the way, I want to add that to my sig, but I might get banned from posting in the other forums.

For some reason I get a generic action movie vibe from that trailer. I don't have high hopes.

Huh, Ridley Scott isn't directing this one. That may be a plus, because I think most directors lose their touch eventually; maybe because a young director is eager to make their mark and has a distinctive vision for the end result of their works, whereas a veteran director has had so many arguments with the money men and had to make so many compromises for what would be considered "profitable" that they lost that vision along the way.

IMO Ridley Scott's visions only tend to have distinctive green tints these days: How much money can be made from churning out sequels and spin-offs.

I care even less about Harrison Ford for the same reason. When was the last time he did a good job in a film? The nineties maybe?

I'm betting one Dick won't be enough for him. As soon as he finishes that one he'll jump right onto another.

this film is gonna suck so hard, they will have to invent a new word for it.

(it might finally put to rest the vast majority of people who claim Deckard was a replicant, but i'm bracing for stuff like "he can age" or similar)

The original is in my top 5 of all time favourite movies, the setting, the visuals, the soundtrack, the pacing, it was perfect.

I'm having a hard time believing this isn't going to be just another Hollywood action movie.

After seeing the preview on TV a few times recently...I have a feeling this will be terrible or, at least, not Bladerunner in any way possible. I don't even know how you're supposed to make a sequel to what was a complete and finished book. I'm wondering if they are trying to turn this into a Matrix-type plot, which would be rather appalling.

Only watched the trailers so far, but I am kinda confused over the lack of Japanese/Asian culture references that were so prevalent in the original film. Rather interesting that very little of it is showing up in BR 2049. To be fair, the original Philip K. Dick novel barely made such references anyway, so I guess the desert scenes in 2049 are much more accurate to the original novel.

This always happens with any highly hyped/anticipated movie. Reviews always start high before it's released because fan boys are the ones that see it first. It always goes down from there.
I would expect a Bladerunner fanboy to be hypercritical. This is my favorite scifi movie of all time. The last ten years have also made me hate movies. I'm prepared to be seriously disappointed even though it seems like the sequel actually has some things going for it.

Yeah it looks like it will have more action than the original but I still think it looks good.

One trailer that's been released has some lines in about every civilisation being built on slavery had my interest. Another trailer I watched that talked about the antagonist "building an army" had me rolling my eyes and thinking about yet another trope from the stalest movie tropes box.

I think I'll hold out for the reviews and even read those pretty sceptically. Bladerunner wasn't a movie begging for a sequel, it covered some interesting territory. I think between rolling Harrison Ford's old bones in yet again and that these trailers have depicted very little of interest, this is just another cash-in, very much like Ridley's other recent contributions to cinema.

Do you have to inject boorish cynicism into your veins each morning, or does it come to you naturally?

I was a teen at the time the original movie came out and Japan was buying up real estate all over the world and they had a very strong economy, plus nearly all electronics came out of Japan at the time so I think the writers just extrapolated that Japan would be this huge global power in the future. The original book was published in 1968 so it's not surprising it wasn't mentioned at all in the book.

I saw the trailer for the sequel recently and it looked decent. I might go see it if the reviews are good.

Dude, it's an opinion about a movie trailer. There are more worthwhile things in life to have a personal investment than to get riled up over some random Internet guy's opinion about a movie trailer.

If it makes you feel any better, maybe it'll be an amazing movie, standing tall with a few other great Hollywood sequels, and then you'll forget all about that nasty random Internet guy who didn't like the trailer. Perhaps every time you watch it in future you'll be reminded of when you experienced the epitome of an excellent evening at the cinema.

Yeah, and maybe I'll wake up tomorrow with a second dick.

Anyone surprised that an upcoming unasked-for sequel with a lifeless cast and tangential relationship to the source material could be a pathetic cash grab, especially after we've seen so many of those, is an idiot. I'd be happy to be wrong, I enjoy good movies, but it's just not likely when it comes to ones like this.

yea saw the trailer and it looked eh. But some of the reviews are very positive. Might have to see it in a theater if it last more than a week.
